Now that my trio will go to full time school (yay!! can't wait) I am also seeking for job since its getting hard to survive on one pay check so I am updating my resume(have 4 yrs work experience in HR) and putting down the gap of 11 years due to my (no work permit visa, then when i got my job permit i had my 3 miracles) plus at home as a domestic engineer . How do I stylize my words

did anyone use the term "domestic engineer" and did it create a spark or fuse??????

I never used the word domestic engineer but I did creatively describe the 10 years I didn't work while the kids were little.

Since I created our local triplets group I descibed it as developing and coordinating a support group of 30 families involving advertising, event planning, researching speakers for meetings etc.

Since I ran the play group at church, I describe it as planning weekly activites for 20 families with children ranging from newborn to 5. I used similar tasks as above.

I worked partime at my children's preschool so used that to describe talents in developing a curriculumn for 4 and 5 year olds, planning and executing field trips, developing a yearbook, promoting the social, academic and deveopmental of each individual child.

I am a nurse, so it wasn't difficult to get a job, but I felt the need to show personal as well as professional growth during those years.

Good luck.

I agree with Judie. I am a former HR manager, and now an office manager. When verbally interviewing someone for a position, I never minded that they were out of the workforce to be a SAHM. If you have any continuing education or hobbies that you pursued during that time, I would share those too! Perhaps also share anything that you had to do on a frequent basis to encourage your kids healthwise, learning skills, etc.

I am dreaming about getting back into the workforce in the next couple years. IMO I wouldn't use the domestic engineer term. To me, it sounds like you are trying to make something sound 'better' or more important... and I think you should just own the fact that you were home with your children. Make no excuses and have no shame!
