#488249, "PreK Daycare-Split up or not?"

The children have been in daycare since 21 months and really enjoy it most of the time. We do have some behavior problems where they fight with each other and get sent to the timeout for talking back. They have always been in the same class and in August they will move to PreK. The center has 2 sections of PreK (Prek1 and PreK2) We have talked with them some over the year about splitting up the kids for PreK so that they get used to being seperated for school and to cut down on behavior problems..the thing is they have 2 PreK and I have 3 kids, so who do I keep together and who to split off.

Holden gets in trouble the most and he is the jokster and ring leader, he also bits and gets mad.

Cayden is super smart and very mature intectually but socially doesnt not play with anyone but his brother and sister.

Kellynn is the girls who doesnt play with the other girls, she plays with her brothers or Kent/John (boys twins in their room). She also tends to be a clone and repeat after what the boys say.

Most of the kids in their current class will go to PreK 1 in August.

They will have to do PreK again next year as they have Sept birthdays and wont make the cut off for school so I will face this problem next year as well and they will only have the same two classes to choose from.

This is obviously just my opinion, but I have not been faced with this yet. My kids are going to pre-k next year for the first time and will be in the same class. I would not split them up only because there are not 3 different classes to split them up into. It sounds like you would have a valid case for seperating each one for a different reason and i would think that who ever gets seperated from the other two is just going to feel like they are being punished. I don't think it would be the same case if they could all get seperated away from eachother. Since you do have one other year of pre-k the following year, if it were me I would hold off until the final year of pre-k and seperate if any of their behavior/shyness gets any worse. Just my opinion. I know its a hard choice and good luck with your decision.

My trio just started their 2nd year of pre-K and we did not split them up. Mine are not attached at the hip though, so should you have one or two that do the talking and such for everyone they may suggest to split them up. We just told the teachers to let us know if any issues pop up and we would take another look at things. We prefer to never split them up, so much easier that way LOL.

We asked ours to be split up in Daycare at about 2.5/3 years old and it's honestly the BEST choice we ever made for our kids, AND for their (poor) teachers who were constantly having to separate them for the fighting, arguing.

There has been so much growth, and so much more peace in the classroom at school. Plus, they seem to appreciate their time at home TOGETHER more, having the chance to be separated from eachother for a few hours everyday.

Our preschool only has 2 classrooms, so we separated the boys, and put cassie with the brother she was NOT the closest to. It's worked really really well for us!
