#488292, "19 weeks pregnant with triplets UTI and short cervix"

Looking for some advice/experience ... I'm 19w1d with bbg triplets. I've been feeling vaginal pressure and generally "not right " the last two days. I went to OB today and found out I have a UTI and that my cervix has gone from 47 to 28 in 6 days. I was sent home with antibiotics and told to 'rest '. I'm so scared, what is my cervix keeps shortening?

at 19 weeks my wife's cervix from 4 cm to 1 cm in a matter of less than 2 weeks...she went on bedrest and stuck to it well (i give her tons of credit) and made it to 28 weeks and 1 day. That was by far the scariest part of the pregnancy. We have 3 4 month-old adjusted age babies. 2boys 1 girl. Hang in there and do not hesitate to go with your gut on this...I know its not a lot of help but i wish you a lot of luck and will say some prayers for you!!! Good luck God Bless

We were going in every two weeks for check ups. At week 15 we were 37mm, at week 17 it had dropped to 30. We were a little concerned, but the doctors were fine with it. They put her on pelvic rest, but she kept working at her job.

We were scheduled for another check up at week 19, but she was feeling cramping and stuff about a week before the appointment. I told her to call and talk to someone. They said to come in, and they would see what was going on. Cervix dropped to 10mm in ten days. They admitted her the same day for monitoring. The cramps she was having were contractions.

We met doctors, and discussed our options. We had a cerclage put in the next morning. We are currently at 25 weeks, and cervix is holding steady at 25mm the past 4 weeks. We realize that there is no way of knowing how long it will hold. But I know it is the only reason we made it as far as we have. It was a tough decision to make. The complications and problems you can have with a cerclage can be pretty scary.

They put her on bed rest the day she had the cerclage. We set small goals for ourselves. We wanted to get to 24 weeks, and we have. For us, our next goal is 28 weeks. After that we hope to make 30.

Try not to get down on yourself, and try not to worry too much. There are options.

I thought I would share one more thing.

When we met with the doctor to discuss our options. He told us about a woman down the hall. She came in for her normal check up at week 17. She felt fine, no issues at all. She was 2cm dilated!

They of course had to do a cerclage immediately. He said he could see the bag, and a foot. He pushed it up in and closed the cervix, and stitched it up. She was in and out of the hospital for monitoring from time to time. But the day we were sitting there and listening to him tell us this. She was just down the hall, and at 33 weeks.

It's scary, but there are many success stories.
