#955, "Contractions??"

Hi again girls. I have been feeling this tightness around my belly button for a while now. Actually, since I was about 8 weeks pregnant. I kept asking the doctor and he said it was normal. Anyway, I had my cervix checked, and its nice and long (4.2)..
What could this tightening be? I get it a lot and I get it every day. My belly feels very heavy and big, it looks like im about to give birth although Im only 12 weeks!!!!

Hi-

Congrats on your pg

I don't know what you are feeling, but it sounds like contractions?! Maybe It could be something as simple as your uterus growing. Either way, if you are concerned about it, I would push your doctor for some better answers. I don't want to scare you bcs. it's great that your cervix is so long, but that could change pretty quickly.

Hopefully some other women on this BB will be able to give you more insight.

I wish you the best of luck!

I had the same thing with my belly button. It was so sore that I could'nt touch it. I went to the hospital to check it out. They put me on the monitor and said that I was have a little irritability(sp). They gave me a shot of terb. and monitored me and found nothing. The next day I just happened to have an appt. with my regular Doc. and he said that some women complain of this and know one really knows why his theory is that it is the thinist part of your belly and it is just stretching. He said that it had nothing to do with contractions. He also said that if I was in true PTL that one shot of terb. would not have stopped it. On the other hand if your whole belly is tightening than you are probably contracting. I started contracting at 16 weeks and made it to 32 weeks. At 23 weeks I was having 14 contractions an hour. If you are at all concerned with anything go to the doc.Hope this helps! Good luck
