#2251, "autism-hand flapping-physical therapy"

Hi,
I have a question. My son is 5. I thought as he got older the hand flapping would subside. It has somewhat but he still does it quite a bit. He actually balances himself on his butt and lifts his legs up and flaps his hands and his feet move too at the same time. I have 2 questions. What have any of you done for your children with this situation? and Is this considered something the physical therapist would work on. I am in the middle of requesting my son recieve PT 2 x per week at school and I think they are leaning in the direction of saying no, because he's evaluated on how well he gets around and does at school, not at home,or something like that. Anyway just wanted to find out if anyone had any info.TIA.
(He currently recieves PT 1x per week)

Julie

I'm a PT. I would recommend an OT evaluation at school. They work on sensory issues MUCH more than PT's do. Good luck
