#2845, "Question about symptoms of CP"

One of my trio shows signs of cp but has not been diganosed due to his age. I am wondering if any one who had a baby with cp did they have sleeping issues also. I know probbly a really dumb question but we are running out of options with my little one and sleeping. We have tried everything. If we let him cio he will cry for hrs on end. I am just wondering if this could be a sign or if anyone knows what else we could do. It seems to me that it is a security issue if that makes sense. If i get him out of bed and put him in bed with me and just cuddle with him for about ten minutes he is okay and back to sleep which i put him back in his crib. I am just looking for some answers or advice.

Many kids with CP have sleeping problems. Some of the reasons can be reflux, tight muscles, seizures, sleep apnea, inability to get comfortable because they can't move around, etc..

Letting Noah CIO did NOT work. I'd end up with a child covered in puke more times than not. He could not seem to settle himself down -- he would scream for hours and hours. It became much easier to comfort him than to deal with the issue.

After much trial and error he is sleeping pretty well these days. He takes reflux meds and also Melatonin before bed.

Noah's CP was diagnosed at about 10 months (7 months adjusted). I've never understood why many doctors refuse to diagnose until 2 years of age. It was much easier to get him the services he needed once we got the diagnosis.

Let me know if I answer any more questions....

Hi, Jaclyn-

I'm the one with the dd recently diagnosed with CP. She is our worst sleeper. She wakes up first from naps and often at night too, but has the same reaction as your ds when we cuddle with her. I also suspected that the two were related and did a search on google for CP and sleep disturbance. There does seem to be a link from what I have read.

Thankfully, she is having some good days too, but this has only been over the last couple of weeks.
