#3346, "good support group for asperger's/autism"

My oldest son (3 1/2) has not been diagnosed but is exhibiting characteristics of asperger's/autism. I am really needing someone to talk to about this. Are there any good support group websites or something? Or is there anyone here who could offer support?

He is just getting started in a developmentally delayed three year old program through our local school district. I visited it today for the first time and I think it will be very good for him. I am having some problems now though. One is that his siblings are starting to copy some of his behaviors and not his GOOD behaviors. It is such a fine line in trying to determine what are behaviors related to his disorder and what are normal three year old behaviors. And how do you explain to a 20 month old that these behaviors are inappropriate?

Sometimes, I just want to escape from him and my other kids because it is just so darn difficult to keep my patience. I mean not only do I have triplets, 5 kids under the age of 3 1/2, but now a special needs child??? Good God, how much does He think I can handle??? And I can't really escape because there is no one who can handle him like me (anticipate his melt downs, know how he wants certain things done, etc.)...except his father (DH). But, because we have so many other young kids, one person can't always watch all five kids.

Anyway, I just need someone who understands. I am really down right now.

Oh girl, I so understand!! I only have my trio, but this week I have really been feeling the "how much more does he think I can handle" thing.........especially as she was having a hysterical melt down in CHURCH on sunday!!!
I really like these groups and websites.

Let me know if those work for you and if you are interested in any individual blogs. I have some of those, but don't know if I should post them on a public spot.

Email me anytime at katengarry@yahoo.com
I am just beginning this journey myself (she was dx. in March), but I sure can listen!

Hang in there!! Katie
