#3932, "Anyone recommend specific blwk before the Devel Pedi ch..."

Onto another question! We have an appt with the Developmental Pedi in October, but are going to see our regular Pedi for a routine checkup in 2 weeks. I am going to request that one of my son's thyroid levels be checked--he is the littlest guy with the biggest appetite. I would't say it is insatiable or anything, but since I have 2 other kids to compare him to (including his identical brother), I just wonder if I have something to be concerned about (I have hypothyroidism). I called the Dev. Pedi's office today to ask if they would like me to get any other blwk done while I was getting the other drawn, and they said no--not until after he sees the boys. Is there anything any of you think we should have checked? We are seeing the Dev. Pedi because of our boy's developmental delay concerns. Thanks! Amber

Hi Amber What made you want to check your son's thyroid? Was it just based on your own symptoms of hypothyroidism or did someone suggest that? I was just curious because I am working with a naturopath who is also an MD and she suggested we do a thyroid panel(TSH, T3 and T4) on one of the my daughters (my smallest). We also drew a serum fungal panel because we know she has a problem with yeast and our doctor wants to know if it is intestinal or blood or both. I believe she is on the autism spectrum and it seems that these children have trouble with yeast overgrowth from what I have read.
Best of luck at your appointment and I hope you are able to get all of your blood work you need with one stick. I know that was a concern of mine as well. Tracey GGG 2/04

Hey Tracey! Yes, it is only a precaution. Other than his appetite, I have no other reason. We have had a couple of yeast infections with the kids (I know they have all had one, but I can't remember which ones have had 2), but other than that, there is no other reason besides my just wanting to know. I don't think I have much to be concerned about, but since it is on my mind, I'd rather be safe than sorry. If you can remember, please keep me posted. I have never heard of a naturopath, how is that working out for you? Amber

I'll keep you posted. I did not hear from my doctor's office yet but we had the labwork done last Wednesday. I looked into a DAN! doctor (Defeat Autism Now) but they are very new to this area so I decided to go with a naturopathic doctor a friend had suggested. She has used her with good luck. I was skeptical at first but she seems very knowledgeable. I hope everything goes well with your Developmental Pedi appointment. If you get a chance, post to let us know how it went and take care, Tracey GGG 2/04
