#3946, "Mealtime seating options for son with CP"

Hello, I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for comfortable and safe seating for mealtime for a child who is moderately affected with CP. My son is almost 6 yrs old, has CP but is able to sit up on his own. He cannot walk and does not have functional use of his left hand so balance can be an issue. Surprisingly, he is still able to fit into a "the first years" brand toddler feeding chair which fits into one of our kitchen chairs. Unfortunately, this has become unsafe and not very comfortable for him. He does have a "Rifton" feeding chair but the model that we have has become cumbersome and uncomfortable. I have researched this topic and have seen some options but I am really looking for some feedback from someone who has actually found something that has worked for them. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

No personal experience w/CP (just a wiggler that flipped his feeding chair!), but would a Stokke Kinderzeat Tripp Trapp chair work? They have a seatbelt that could help with not sliding out of the seat, and they have an adjustable foot rest.

I have one sitting out in my garage unused for the past year or so. Not sure if it comes apart to ship, but if you end up considering one, let me know and I could ask my dh to see if he could take it apart if you might want a use one.

If you do a websearch for it, you should find tons of website retailers. It's kind of pricey, but I found one with free shipping when I bought mine. And I think they've redesigned it a little with more seating accessories now, too.

Good luck!

Anne
