#3991, "Seizures"

We just got home from a 4 day stay at Children's hospital. My dd is having seizures again. They had been controled with meds but in the resent 2 months, the meds are no longer working. The EEG read a slowing in the back right side of her brain. Anyway, I have a new concern. Her eyes keep dilating......I mean so much that her beautiful blue eyes look black. They did this just at times when the seizures first started coming back but now, at times, they are dilated for hours at a time. I asked the doctors about this but they wouldn't give me any real answer. Most of them said they didn't know the reason for this. Does anyone have any clue as to why this is happening? It just really has me upset.

Thank you for any input.

Misti.......proud mommy to Maecie, Nikki and Joey. 10-27-01

I do not have any experience in this, but I wanted to pass on that I read a new article about a recent study where they found that the Ketogenic (sp?) diet that is used for older children (who have hard to control seizures) has good success with infantile seizures. They had fewer breakthrough seisures and much less chance of reoccurance. The diet is not easy to maintain but is another option if the meds are not working.

I am so sorry your DD is dealing with this and will keep her, and your family in my prayres.
