Hi All!

I have a friend with 3-year-old child with Down's Syndrome. She mentioned that he is outgrowing his Size 7 diapers and that they are going to need to go to a special-needs diaper -- which she said are very expensive!

He is about 50 pounds and on the tall side.

Does anyone have any recommendations for this type of need for brand and also the best places to buy them? She mentioned they might consider cloth diapering but didn't know if that was a good alternative. His skin is very sensitive.

In her words, "he is nowhere NEAR being ready for potty training" so I think they are looking at needing special needs diapers for a couple of years at least.

I work in home care and have had several patients needing diapers at age 10 and older.

The brand most of them use is TENA. You should be able to find them at a medical supply company. Also, In Indiana, Medicaid pays for diapers after age 3 for those who need it due to a medical condition. I don't know if your firend's child would qualify.

We just used overnight pull-ups for our dd w/Downs. XL size I believe. She was teeny-tiny at age 3yo though. She is 12yo now and only weighs 65lbs.
