Anyone used melatonin for their child with ASD for sleep issues? Thanks.

Answering my own question here.....

We started my DS on it a few night ago and it seems to be helping him fall asleep faster and sleep through the night again. We haven't had a 2am marathon since we started it (knock on wood)....

My friend uses this with her son who has Smith magnus Syndrome. His body doesn't nautrally produce it at night, so this has helped her. However, she still states that he doesn't sleep as long as his siblings. He goes to bed around ten at night, then is up by five inthe am, but this is a BIG IMPROVEMENT than before she started him on the medication. Good luck!!

Thanks Lucinda... My DS's sleep patterns got out of whack once the daylight hours became longer this summer. He literally would not sleep until like 11pm and then would wake up at like 2-3am for about 3 hours and then crash. We tried everything and the melatonin was our last resort. Since we started it he has been sleeping great. Last night he went down at 8:30 and slept til 7am! WhooHoo!

Glad it's working. Just saw this thread or I would have commented sooner. We used it when my dd was younger and it worked great, except for a few times when she was able to stay awake through it, she was a crabby, half-awake mess!
