#4449, "Autism?"

Anyone else out there with triplets diagnosed with autism? Wondering about the gluten-free diet, but can barely get them to eat normal food. If you've tried it, I'd love to know more.

Are you on FB? If so, look for the group "Triplet Families Living With Autism". There might be someone on there that can help you.

DS was on the GFCF diet for a about a 1-1/2 years. He was a very picky eater prior to going on the GFCF diet. It was hard at first, but there are a lot GFCF products available (but is it costly) and takes time finding products/recipes what taste good. Even though only one of my kids is autistic, we did put his siblings on the diet also (we also took out dyes/additaives/preservatives from their diets). Although DS was 100% GFCF, I would not have called us a 100% GFCF household, we were very careful re cross-contamination (we had separate cookware, plates, food storage, sponges, etc.) and we also changed types of soaps, detergants, cleaning supplies, etc. We did the whole supplement thing also. We did take DS off the diet, and did not notice any changes. Since he was on the diet he did become more open to trying new foods, there isn’t a veggie or a fruit that he won’t eat. Although the GFCF diet did not seem to help my DS, one of my friends who son started the GFCF diet the same time we did has said that she has noticed a difference with her son. Good luck with your decision.
