Anne - My older son had cataract surgery in both his eyes within 6 months of each other at the age of 2. It was a long time ago, but please e-mail me directly at sporush4@aol.com and we'll talk. - Sara, mom to Dovi (age 6, special needs), and Elisha, Shana, and Jakie (born 8/12/02 @ 29w6d)

I work for a cataract surgeon, although we do not do any pediatric work. Cataract surgery has come a long way and I'm sure he will do fine! It does need to be taken care of while he is still pretty young so the visual pathways can develop. Amblyopia (lazy eye) can happen when something like a cataract prevents that eye from seeing like it should. I'm sure there are issues associated with pediatric eye surgery that I am not familiar with, but surgeons have been dealing with cataracts for a long time and are very good at it!
