#581, "Cleft palate surgery"

Anyone have a baby with a cleft palate? Our little Ashley is having cleft palate surgery on Sept. 20. I was just wondering if anyone has gone through this and would share their experience with me.
Thanks
Tracey

Hi, I don't have experience with it but my two girls (BGG born 6.14.04) have cleft palates. One is more severe than the other but they said they will wait until they are at least a year old---I see your baby is under a year. I have joined another sight on Yahoo--Pierre Robin because one of my girls, Meghan, was diagnosed with that--she has a bilateral horseshoe cleft of her hard palate, recessed chin, and is on a g-tube. My other one, Samantha, has s small cleft of her soft palate--but still want to ait a year. So they might help--even if your child does not have PR--they are full of info and very helpful.
Hope all goes well with your little ones surgery. Take care.

Thank you Anne. I will check into Yahoo. The surgery will be next Monday. I am nervous but eager to get it done and over with.

I personally have not gone through it with any of my children, but my baby adopted brother had it done around the same age of your daughter, and I remember that the surgery was a huge success. Hope you get more responses! I'll be thinking of your daughter and prayers for a succesful surgery on the 20th!
