#671, "Asperger Syndrome"

We had our 2 year appointment today and my son, Cameron, is going to be tested on hearing and speech because he seems to not be able to hear anything behind himself. Then he is showing some signs of autism traits and the doctor thinks it could be asperger syndrome. Does anyone's child have this and when was it diagnosed and how, etc..

Hi Kristi,
My son Devon was actually initially diagnosed as being deaf because he never responded to voice and did not respond at all during his hearing evaluation. After further testing, his hearing is well within the normal range. He was then diagnosed as having moderately severe autism. He is still non-verbal, although being foreverly optimistic, I prefer to call it pre-verbal. Devon was diagnosed at 2 years 2 months after seeing a pediatric neurologist, having an EEG, MRI, genetic testing and then an appointment with a pediatric psychologist specializing in autism.

Hi Kristi,

Someone posted this link this in my email group and I thought that you might be interested. Apparently, Jane Pauley is doing a segment this week on Aspergers. I hope that it is helpful to you.

Good luck with your son.
