Hi, Even though I have 2 children with autism, ages 4 and 5, I have never checked this out. I have heard about this in the past and came across it again today online, with some amazing stories. Has anyone tried this and if so, how does it work and what are the results you have experienced? Thanks. Julie

HI; I have heard of it but do not know much about it (not very helpful huh!!) This other site that I belong to has a great group of mom's of kids with special needs that seem to know about every treatment out there. Look under INCIID (it's a infertility site, FREE) And then go under parenting and then under parenting kids with special needs. I'm sure you will get good responses there JEN W

When our boys were first dx, and we asked the county to pay for ABA for us, they "stalled" us with auditory integration therapy. We agreed to "try" it, with a f/u meeting set for two weeks afterwards. Then we found out that it was just a EI teacher (with no AI training) coming in, putting a pair of Radio Shack headphones on our boys' ears and playing music. We did some research and found out there was much more to it than that, frequency, pitch, etc. So we "stalled" them right back, refusing any headphones to touch our boys' ears until they were looked at by an audiologist for possible fluid in their ears. Then when we had our f/u IFSP meeting, we had enough time to discredit their information (the leader of the IFSP meeting knew NOTHING about AI except it was cheaper for her to have this teacher do it than pay for ABA.) We gave them info from ASHA recommending that AI not be used for children with autism. Obviously, if you are doing it with a professional, I recommend talking to some of their patients' families. We had a "band aid" version of AI offered and that wasn't good enough for us.
It's not to say it won't work for anyone, it's just a very expensive thing to do correctly. We chose ABA (and after that IFSP meeting, the county agreed to pay for some of our hours.)
