#784, "ADD"
|
Hello, I have posted this on the veterans forum and it finally dawned on me that I should post it here as well (duh). Anyway, the possiblity of my ds having ADD has been brought up by his teacher. This is something that has always been in the back of my head as he has shown some signs in the past but never anything consistant until the end of the summer. He has been having problems attending to tasks at school among other many other things. I have checked a few websites and the signs describe my son to a "T". Also, when asking him what he feels when he is supposed to be "thinking" he replied, "Mom, it is like when you are singing in music class and you forget the words right in the middle of singing the song and everybody else keeps on singing." My brother had ADHD and my dh is convinced that he had a form of ADD also, however, being that was the early seventies not much was being done and he was just chalked up as being lazy and irresponsible by teachers and his parents. Anyway, here I go again, blah, blah, blah, but does anyone have any info or experiences they would like to share? Korrie has given me some excellent web-sites and success stories (Thank you Korrie!) but I am one of these people that needs to have as much info as possible. TIA

I don't have any information to share with you but I wish you the best in dealing with this. We are going through the same issue with our 8yr singleton son. He has also been labeled a 'talker' in school and struggles with his school work. It has now gotten to the point where it is interefering with his school work. We tried to call our pediatrician this past Friday to make an appointment, but there is only 1 dr in their practice that does the testing, and there are 12 kids in front of ours waiting. They came me a few other names for referrals, but they are not covered by our insurance. I am very scared of putting him on medication and having that dictate his life. He has such a spectatular personality, I would hate for something to chance that. Right now until we can get him to a doctor for a true evalution, I went to Hi Health and purchased him some chewable vitamin type things to see if that will help. I will keep an eye on this post to see what advice others may have to give.
