Hi, I have just found out that PG with 3, about 8 weeks. I am mid 40's and this is first time pg. I need some straight talking from someone to tell me the potential pitfalls and concerns that I should be researching. Obviously age is a concern, ist time is a concern, 3 are a concern. What are the stats for this.

My daughter had triplets at age 39. She got some wonderful medical advice and attention at Good Samaritan Region Medical Center in Phoenix. The Phoenix Perinatal Associates are said to have the best outcomes with multiples in the USA (keeping the babies "in" for the longest time). My daughter had her BBG triplets at 33 weeks, 3 days. There are some wonderful books on the subject; you could check out Amazon.com, and search for "triplets". My daughter got much useful info. from several books on the subject.

Hi, I am a triplet mom that just reciently gave birth (June 29th). I am 33 and my BBG triplets were born at 33 weeks 5 days. I did have bad back problems (I did with my single birth also) and I did end up with gestational diabetes and had to give myself insulin injections. I was taken out of work at 20 weeks even though all I did was sit behind a computer. I wasnt put on bed/chair rest til the last week. When I started going in for my non stress tests the first time they told me I was having contractions. Hell it was the same pain I had been having thru the entire pregnancy. I wasnt dialated but they kept me overnight anyway, then sent me home to do nothing but sit. Exactly one week later I had another NST and one of the babies heart rate was dropping, that meant another night stay. I went home the next night around 6pm or so. Next morning I was having contractions at 9am. I went to the hospital around 1pm, I thought they would stop like they had been doing. They gave me 2 medications to stop the contractions. I had been dialated to 1 for hours and hours. In 1 hour I went from 1 to fully dialated and it was a rush delivery (C-section which I knew I was getting anyway). They were 3.15, 4.2, and 4.11. My boy Logan the 4.11 was on oxygen for 2 days I think. They were all doing great and all 3 went home at 9 days old. They are all doing wonderfully and they are 3 months old today. If you have any more questions feel free to email me. MishelleT@hotmail.com
Good Luck! Michelle

Hi! We had GBB trips on 8/13/02. They were born at 31w2d. They arrived after me spending about 5 w on bedrest at the Hospital on medication to stop the contractions. Then one night my water just broke. They spend from 3-6 weeks at the NICU, getting some oxygen and learning to eat.
I had flunked the Diabetes test, but my Dr told me that there are no proven numbers out there and just told me to gain weight and eat what I want.
Good luck! Nicola (31) Sean (19 months) Megan, Evan and Cameron (8 weeks)

hi First congratulations!!! Good luck. I found out I was pregnant with triplets at 32 also a first time mom. I tried very hard to eat right and exercise at the beginning of my pregnancy. I have never been so tired in my life. I worked almost up to the end, finished work March 15 and had the gremlins on April 14, 2002. I also moved in the middle of my pregnancy, not recommended. I managed to keep the kids until 32 1/2 weeks when my little guy decided he had a problem and the doctors said it was time. The were born 3.14, 3.11, 2.11 they stayed in the NICU for 22,23, &28 days coming home the day before mothers day. If you have any questions please feel free to e-mail me at kmwally@hotmail.com. Good luck,
Kristen

First of all, let me also offer my congratulations! The day after my 39th birthday I found out I was having spontaneous triplets (and this after only 4 months of marriage!) My GGB triplets were born on 10/7/97 at 32 1/2 weeks weighing 2'2oz, 2'13 and my boy 3'11. I also would highly reccomend getting the information packet from TC and read every word. Find a great perinatologist who has successfully delivered many triplets and follow his advice. As someone else stated, it is scary to read of everything that could go wrong, but it does help you to be prepared. Also, when they were prepping me for my C-section, the NICU pediatrician came in and told us everything that could go wrong with the babies, but you know what? Nothing that he said could happen, did happen. One comment I have - because of your age they will of course want to do an amniocentesis. Read all the info about this very carefully. I chose not to have one because I felt that the risk was higher than the reward(?). Even if the results showed that one of the babies had Down's, I knew I would not have selective reduction, I would continue with the pregnancy as usual, so why even risk it? Thanks be to God, all our babies are beautiful, super-healthy, highly intelligent kids.
My experience in being an older Mom has been a TOTAL lack of energy even though I take megamultivatins and other supplements. Also, I began going through menopause a couple years ago and now have to deal with all the mood changes and hot flashes which really drive me crazy! I'm just glad I'll be completely done with this by the time my kids are teenagers! Ha!
My advice to anyone having multiples is to super-clean and super-organize your house and life before the babies come. Of course, you will need all the help you can get because you should be on bedrest. You and your spouse need to talk over and hopefully resolve any issues between you and pay off all the outstanding credit cards and bills you can before the babies come. I say all this from experience because, believe me, they will be alot of work and you will be tired and stressed out just from taking care of the kids and you wont believe how much expense three kids can be!! So whatever you can do to alleviate things now, DO IT!!
