#1802, "new mealtime blessing song"

I have sung "God Our Father" to the point that I just can't stand it anymore!

We recently discovered a new one that I really like (for now anyway) and I thought share in case anyone else is looking.
----------------------------------------------

Oh, the Lord is good to me,
And so I thank the Lord,

For giving me
the things I need,

The sun and the rain and the appleseed,
The Lord is good to me.

Johnny Appleseed, Amen!

Tune:

There are tons of little kids singing it on youtube if you search!

Anyone else have any good song blessings? We do "God is Great" as well, but my kids would just rather sing!

We do the God Is Great. I would like a different one because I feel as though it sounds like a chant when we do it.

God is great
God is good
And we thank Him for our food
Dear Jesus bless this food, amen

I'll check out the youtube video...thanks!

Oh, I think it was on the Simpsons where Bart prayed, "Rub a dub dub..thanks for the grub." ha!

My nieces did one to The Addams Family for a while (you know, with the finger snaps). That wasn't very reverent, but they loved it!

we're big johnny appleseed pray-ers around here, and it's fun to subsitute your own name in there as well...like "baby sebastian...amen!"

Jesus loves the little children
all the little children of the world
sun and rain, night or white
they are precious in his sight
Jesus loves the little children of the world!

or here's another one, i don't know the "real name..."

every step i take i take in you, you are my way Jesus
every step i take i take in you
waves of mercy
waves of grace
everywhere i look, i see your face
your love has captured me
oh my God, this love, how can it be?

Jesus loves me can also be appropriate.

sorry so generic, we are into "popcorn prayers" at our house. you might also want to introduce simple contemporary gospel songs to them and have them sing a verse of those ie: amazing love,

i remembered another one last night...you tube will probably have the tune, or some religious website...

we thank you our Father for all thy provideth
for winter, for summer, for spring and for fall
for rain and for sunshine
the gifts of thy goodness
we sing in adoration
and praise thee for all!

(as you can tell, that is an old boarding school hymn, but the kids like it).

popcorn prayers are prayers where anyone can chime in, in any order. here's an excerpt for you.
Popcorn Prayer: This metaphor for prayer is that of the random popping of popcorn. Anyone is encouraged to jump in with a brief prayer of thanksgiving or request. Again, a leader can open this time of prayer and after a healthy silence, close the prayer time. A word or phrase is all that is encouraged to keep this prayer style moving. It is a good introduction to group prayer. A theme of what people are thankful for could be used throughout this prayer.

it gets kids used to praying for different topics and in their own time, which is something i like.

hope this helps.

We do the doxology:

Praise God from whom all blessings flow,
Praise Him all creatures Here Below,
Praise Him above ye Heavenly host,
Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost,
Amen

Thanks for the post!
