#1874, "Lost my ability to FOCUS - please help!"

With three nearly 4-year-olds in the house and all the noise and craziness, I feel like I've become ADD. I'm completely serious. I have a really hard time focusing on my homework and reading without that intense feeling like I need to get up and do something else. And I'm INTERESTED in my classes... I just can't focus!!!

I thought maybe it was from dealing with the constant go-go-go life with triplets this age. Or always having to be alert. I never felt like this one or two years ago. I find myself with headaches more often than not, and when I have alone time (when the girls are in school) I end up cleaning. It's like I can't NOT clean when the house is messy.

Does anyone here take supplements or anything like that and does it help? I've heard of Ginseng helping... Or do I have the wrong root? I've been feeling like I need more exercise over the last few weeks, but I'm afraid it'll usurp my time and energy even more! (Plus, with the surgery, I don't know how long I have to wait.)

I need advice... help!

Loren,
I am not sure about anything really, I had an energy star drink the other day and that was a nice boost. It helped me get through the day without feeling so tired, but I am not sure about focused.

Do you use an organizer? With a to do list and stuff?
Sometimes it just really helps me to have everything written out so the jumbled thoughts in my head can get out and shut up

That said, I am a horrible procrastinator (right now I am putting off going to sleep if that tells you anything) and can't focus when I simply just don't want to,. So not much help here, but maybe a list can give you a bit of peace.

I have a dry erase calendar in the den that I use pretty religiously. I tell Mike, if it's not on the calendar, it doesn't exist to me, no matter how many times he tells me about it.

I don't really drink energy drinks since I had a "bad experience" (read: hangover) from too many Jagerbombs. The smell of Red Bull turns my stomach and I haven't been brave enough to sniff out a new one!

Well, you know I wheatgrass. But where you'd get wheatgrass in Iowa would be a mystery.

We just had to do a 100 question test to renew our licenses, (read in to "we") and I swear that my brain doesn't work anymore. I would read something and then I'd look at a question and then I'd think about dinner. I almost couldn't do it!

"I would read something and then I'd look at a question and then I'd think about dinner."

That's EXACTLY what I'm talking about!

I used to be an avid reader and tests were a breeze... I feel like my brain has died. Not all of it, just the useful part. The part that remembers where Mike's crap is 24/7 still works just fine.

I am so glad that I am not the only one who feels this way! I was a CPA in my prior lifetime. I could sit and focus and work for HOURS. Now, I have turned into such an airhead. I'll clean for 10 minutes, then go to put something away and get sidetracked and do that for 10 minutes, then come back to TC for 10 minutes. I just never am able to focus on any one thing for any period of time.

Once preschool started, I started back to the Y and it's been the best thing ever for me. That and starting on Lexapro. I'm feeling MUCH better, focusing better, remembering better and just doing better. I've had a ton of stressors over the past year and just hadn't been doing very well.

I go to the Y every Monday and Wednesday morning while they're in preschool and then Monday and Wednesday nights while they are in their activities. I have so much energy on those days. It helps some the next day, but I think I need to go every morning to keep my butt in gear. But I can't. I went this past Saturday and that helped. So I may try to do it Saturday mornings while everyone is sleeping in or something. I refuse to take them back to the Y nursery, so I told dh we need to tag team this.

But exercising will increase your energy level, help to clear you mind and just make you all around happier. Must be the endorphins!

But I feel the same way about things, so you're feelings are normal, I think for this stage. Everyone talks at the same time, about different things, the higher than they used to have energy, the mess they have been making, etc. Plus having teenagers....nuff said...

I think if I had teenagers, too, I'd make them sleep in the yard in a pup tent.

ya that'd be great, but then they'd escape. So better to keep a baby monitor near the door so you can hear their every move...lol

Oh and for the focus, I've got none, as you can see by my post. I went off on an exercise tangent instead of answering your question.

I'm convinced I am ADD. I can't keep my mind in one place for more than a minute and that makes me very nervous about going back to school.

I have not really tried any supplements yet. I did do better when on my anxiety meds, but the side effects from those go to be too much for me.

DRUGS.. does a body good. and if you get the right kind you likely won't know that you are forgetting stuff

Just kidding. I have the same problem. I work from home and some days I'm so confused. I start doing work for my company and end up thinking about something that needs to be done here at home.

Ugh...I think I loose more and more brain cells with every birthday my boys have.

That is one reason I don't think I'll work from home again.

I take a Super B Complex vitamin supplement every morning. Maybe it's placebo effect, but I swear it works. When I don't take it, I feel more jittery/anxious/tense etc. It seems to have a calming effect on the nerves. I started taking it after a friend of mom told me about it; she used it for the same reason.

But on the other hand, I often can't focus on projects I need to do (such as photo albums!!!) when I have the free time. I always seem to do something else instead. Procrastinating or feeling overwhelmed, I'm not sure.
