#1939, "Screaming..."

Hi all - it has been a long time since I have posted. But I have an issue and I dont think anyone can help but thought I would try..

My littlest DD (will be 4 in 1.5 months) - despises carseats. She was ok for a little while but now every time we are in the car - she screams. and I dont mean scream - I mean sounds like she is being murdered, scream. It was so bad she was practically foaming at the mouth saturday then spit the foam all over. SHe was screaming that hard. She tries to FIGHT her way out of the seat, says it is TOO tight. She has said this a long time but honestly I could get arrested for the lack of tightness.

She kicks and turns and fights and scream the WHOLE time. WOuldnt be SO bad if we lived 1 mile from things. But jsut to get to daycare or school it is 15 minutes away.

Pushing me MADLY over the edge.

SInce it isnt tight, she is not in pain is there ANYTHING else it could be? I wish it would stop - is there any natural remedies to try? Is it something physically wrong with her? SHe is fine except for teh DAMN carseat...

We have tried 3 different carseats and they all the same result.. I am REALLY dreading when winter jackets come into play cause that will be worse..

HELP..

THanks

Kelli and my GEM's - age 5 years old

Hi Kelli,
Good to hear from you again! How's work going?

A few thoughts
- I know dh might not be around alot sometimes, but could you try 'okay, you stay home with daddy while we go to the park/school/etc' (assuming she has fun when she goes and would miss it!!). basically, just try to call her bluff and leave her home. what would she do?
- can she do any of the buckles? I'm thinking if she has some control over buckling herself in etc...
- it might drive the others nuts, but how about if she starts screaming, you pull over to side of the road and get out of the car. bring a book and read next to it until she's quiet. just give yourself extra time to get somewhere or do it on a trial run! stay calm and just say 'mommy can't drive with that much noise; it's not safe. I'll be happy to get back in when it's quieter.'
- talking with her. review why carseats are mandatory and what the rule is over the tightness. what do you think we could do to make you more comfortable in your carseat? and see what ideas she has.

maybe you've tried this stuff already but it's all I could come up with!

good luck and buy some good earplugs!

Perhaps a visit to the police station where a uniformed officer can tell her that the law says mommy has to put you in?
