#2054, "Going to one nap??"

Hi, all. I haven't posted in a little while. Been crazy busy with work and kiddos. Hope all is well with everyone. Anyway, just curious when you went from 2 naps to 1? This week my kids seem to be fighting the morning nap and I'm just wondering if I should start transitioning them? Thoughts?

I don't remember when we transitioned from 2 to 1, but I do remember that when we did it, the girls went from two very short naps (I think it was 10 AM and 3 or 4 PM) to one really long nap (like 11-3).

I think that's about the time I started liking my children again

We transitioned right around 18 months... they were fighting moring naps I was frustrated with it, moved them to 1 nap, they slept from 12-3, still do, and I LOVE it. It really lets you get more time with them, but still have a chunch of time for your things too. It was hard for the first week or so, as some mornings they were really tired, but we got through it. Good luck. Oh, this also moved our bed time to sooner!!

Our boys have just started taking on long nap. They are 20 months. I have been bringing them everywhere to keep them up! Now they are waking around 8, nap from 1-4, bed at 7:30. I NEVER though they would sleep so well. I used to dream of the day when I was not up all the time feeling like we would never be on a great schedule!

My kids were 17 months when they transitioned. They had been fighting the morning nap for a while but weren't really ready to give it up earlier. We dropped the nap while we were visiting my parents' house over Christmas. They were too busy to nap anyway. Whenever you drop it, keep them busy in the mornings for a while.

Hi Tara,

Our kids are the exact same age, and we transitioned just a couple of weeks ago. They were fighting the morning nap and if they did fall asleep, they wouldn't sleep in the afternoon. (Actually, my DDs wanted the switch- DS would have happily kept 2 naps!!)

The first week was a little tough but it has gotten easier. I still sometimes have a kid falling asleep into their lunch, but they are getting much better. The biggest positive is it opens the day up a little for going out.

I remember I tried it at 18 months and it didn't work. We finally got there right around 2. We had a nap from 10-11 and another from 2-4. When we dropped the first nap, our kids didn't really compensate by taking a longer afternoon nap. They just stopped needing that hour. I always think of it as trying to figure out how many hours they really need and then deciding how you want it divided. When they are really little, it is hard for them to stay awake for longer periods. But at some point I think we just decided when naps should be and went with it. It has worked well for us...but then my mom says they sleep too much so i don't know!

Thanks for the replies everyone! It sounds like 1 nap is in our near future. It's good to be back on TC a little. I missed my triplet mommy connection!

We miss you too. I switched at the new year, last year, so we would have been 17 months. It's anyone's guess really.

We transitioned one month ago (16m). We were having episodes of them not sleeping during morning nap and sometimes afternoon nap...so it was time. They now take a two hour nap from 12-2. We have never had long sleepers, but now the nap is long enough that we get a bit of a break!

One of my ds and my dd switched about 2 months ago. My other ds is still taking an am nap from 9:30-10:30 (What can I say, the kids LOVES to sleep!) Our pm nap is from 1:30-3:30 or 4:00. It seemed as though they just magically could do it one day! I think Eli just really enjoys the alone quiet time in his crib. I have tried a few times not to put him down, and like clock work at 9:30am he is at the nursery door saying "night night!"
