What are your children going to be? How did you manage to affored them this year, LOL?
I bought three awesome dalmation costumes from Disney Outlet for the trio, at $14.99 a pop! Wahoo! Those three costumes combined cost as much as Abbi's sleeping beauty costume (and light up shoes, and crown, and wand...). The older girls picked out ghoolish costumes from Walmart for about $17.00 each. I feel like my pocket book was just completely violated! And this year was less than half of last years expense.

We got ours for free! You know how cheap we are. Our friends in Illinois have four older kids, two boys and two girls, so we rummaged through their bins while we were on vacation with the kids over the summer. The kids thought it was the best thing ever and I was ecstatic not to spend $100 again this year. It hurts me as a human being spend that money. Michele Sarah, Gregory, Amanda born 1/22/04 at 35w1d

I thought I was saving a ton of money by making their costumes - maybe we are, I don't know - but they're still expensive. And I CAN'T SEW worth a crap. I've already sewn the skirt on backward to the Dorothy dress. D'oh!!!
$40-50 for the material, $15 for the red sparkly shoes (Dorothy), $3 for the witch hat (Wicked Witch), and I'm sure there'll be more additions when I make the Glinda crown and wand. Oh, and the broom and Dorothy's basket! hahaha... it never ends.
BTW, I read your site but don't always comment. That post about the bedtime story was soooo cute! Loren GGG Jan.2005 @ 28wks

I always by that the end of the season. When they are older, they will just have to decide the year before what they are gonna be. We got their lovely princess outfits from Disney last year at 75% off. I just have to decided right now, what they are gonna be next year. LOL! All from OldNavy.com's clearance...2 mice and a kitty to chase them.
And to prove how frugal I am(DH says it's ghetto more than frugal), I'm having their pictures made Monday and will promptly list the costumes on Ebay for those wait-til-the-last-minute folks who will pay far too much for second-hand costumes. We're having a super lean Christmas here, so that money will go in the gift pot.
We don't do trick-or-treating yet with the kids. We go to a harvest festival at church. They don't usually wear costumes to this because the kids are all over those big inflatable thingies...costumes would be in the way.

I splurged but still got the kids costumes on sale at the Disney Store. The Boys were 40% off at the time and Sis' was 25% off. They are going to be Cap'n Hook, Peter Pan and Tinkerbell. They LOVE the movie and we have ZERO dress up clothes so these will double as dress up clothes.
I had sold a bunch of clothes on ebay so I didn't feel quite so guilty about it. Plus I didn't need to buy much for fall either. I had bought ahead some. Julie BGB ~ June 16, 2005 @ 31wks 3 days Samuel Jonas (3lbs 11oz) Leona Ruth (3lbs 5oz) Gabriel Douglas (2lbs 11oz)

menehunes-legendary Hawaiian leprechan-like people. They wear a smurf-like hat, and a loincloth--nothing else (fabric costed $12). I'm sewing them this year--super easy. The big project will be tricking out the runabout stroller to look like a canoe... Aloha, Kelli BBB 6/4/06 @ 29wks 4 days GG 4/30/09

We are going to be a kitty, butterfly and dragon. Old Navy, Old Navy, Old Navy. This is my favorite shopping place for my kids these days. They love their costumes! Last year my mil was in town and totally ruined it. Actually, I helped ruin it b/c I allowed myself to be a freak-oid stressed out crazy person. Not this year. We are enjoying it this time.

We're going as "pajama party" theme. The trips already had matching pajamas and robes that we got at the baby shower in the right size so all I had to buy was for my 4yo dd. I bought pajamas(which she needed anyway), a robe and slippers. I spent about $25. I bought the robe in a size 6 and she only wears a 4 so it will last a couple of years on her before handing it down. I already have sponge rollers for her hair. I figured since the babies would just be in strollers that nobody would be able to see them that good anyway and I can clearance shop for next years costumes. Sarah

My boys are actually going to be the same thing they were last year. A Kangaroo, Zebra, and a Lion. This was their choice, not mine. I have suggested many cool things: super heros, cat in the hat, etc. But they insist that they want to be zoo animals. And they still fit so why not!

We got off easy this year. My 10-year-old will be wearing one from year's past.
Ella will be wearing her princess dress that my cousin made her to wear to Disneyland in April, and the little boys' costumes I found used on e-bay.

This year I let the kids pick instead of doing a theme. I like the Tom Arma costumes (but they are Pricey) and the 2 boys wanted to be animals. One chose the monkey and one chose the frog. My dd wanted to be snow white (also pricey from Disney). Ouch to the pocket book for these 3 costumes. Averaging about $70 each. Yes, pretty pricey for one day. I do like dressing them up. In the 4 year's worth of costumes, 2 year's ago they were all dragons from Target and the prices were atleast 50% cheaper. They had just as much fun in the costume. This year, I chose expensive...we'll see next year. It's however I feel at that moment when I am buying.
I am going to definitely hit the after Halloween sales for bargin dress up fun.
Official countdown..1 week. BTW, we take ours to the mall where the lighting is good and you can really see the detail of the costumes. Also safer and warmer at the mall!

This year, the girls told me what they wanted to be, and amazingly I was able to make it all work with sweatsuits, haha. I have a mouse; gray sweatsuit with homemade ears and little nose mask with whiskers and teeth and some big pink beads (since she's a girl mouse), a kitty cat: black turtle-neck and black knit pants we already had and a set from Wal-mart with ears and a tail...add a big pink feather boa and a pink bow on her ear; and a flower: green sweatpants, a pink turtleneck, a flower petal headband that I got in the dollar bin at Target a few months ago and a big plastic terra cotta looking pot that was $3, we cut out the bottom, popped a set of suspenders on it to hang over her shoulders and she's a potted daisy (this one turned out SOOOOO cute). I think I spent about $20 total...very frugal this year! I'm sure it won't always be that easy, but I'll take it while I can get it.

I found the trio's costumes on Ebay this year and even paid for them by selling some of their stuff (well, mostly Gracie's clothes, since those seem to sell the best!). We have two Thomas the Trains (about $26 for both new, including shipping), and an Ariel for Gracie (about $36 for a used costume with a tiara plus shipping). Poor little Matthew has a $10 costume from Costco that I don't particularly love... it's a tiger. I may try to find a last minute deal somewhere. I really wanted him to be Pluto, but couldn't find it cheap enough at Disney. Even with their sale, by the time I added shipping, it was about $25 or so... to much for me this year! I didn't even think of looking on Ebay for his. Oh well, too late!

Money is tight this year, so I bought three pumpkin sweatsuits from BRU for 9.99 a piece! They have been great. I have put the sweatshirts on the kids several times for October outings and I got tons of compliments. They have big jack-o-lantern faces on the front and little stems on the hoods...totally cute! I love that I have gotten several uses out of them! Mommy to Eli, Cara, and Brady 4/24/07 born at 34 weeks and Allison Elizabeth (surprise!) born 11/6/08
