I think as long as the child that has MRSA is keeping it covered, your chances are slim. You just need to really watch them for any open sores and make sure they are also covered. Also, should they get a sore, you need to keep a close eye on it, in the event it doesn't heal.
I personally wouldn't be that concerned. I wouldn't tell my DH either, because he'd likely burn the school down after he forbid me to send them. He's a germ freak like that.
Are you giving your kids probiotics? You should be. Given the fact they were given so many antibiotics in the NICU and are already immune to first defense antibiotics, you should be pounding their little systems with probiotics daily. I would recommend Nature's Way Primadophilus Junior and Nature's Way Primadophilus Reuteri. Both are going to colonize their bodies and prevent bad bugs like MRSA from infecting them. You can get those at any health food store (like Whole Foods) in the refrigerated vitamin section.
You really have to build up what the hospital tore down. Had they been born full term and vaginally, they would have picked that up from you on the way out. But given the fact they were csection babies and then also given loads of antibiotics, any of the good bacteria you would have transferred in utero would have been wiped out after birth. You CAN correct that and build them back up from the ground up and they will be healthier and have stronger immune systems. Michele Sarah, Gregory, Amanda born 1/22/04 at 35w1d

Two of my boys had MRSA last year. My boys are 13, and I was shocked when it ended up in our house - times two! My pediatrician says it is EVERYWHERE, and there's nothing you can do to totally prevent it. The two that got it share a room and bathroom, so I wasn't totally surprised when the second one came down with it. My other two, who share a room and have their own bath, did not get it, nor did my husband or I. We practiced lots of handwashing, purell, antiseptic wipes on doorknobs and light switches, etc. They had to take baths with 1/2 cup of bleach and bathe with surgical soap.
