#2361, "Trick-or-treating NOT on Halloween?!?"

Our town decided to be absolutely moronic and moved trick-or-treating to Thursday when it already falls on a weekend.

Does this make sense to ANYONE??? Is this happening to anyone else? And more importantly, is it wrong that a bunch of our neighbors are going on Friday anyway?

Obviously stuff like this brings out the defiant teenager in me, but the way they announced it (amongst advertisements in our podunk flier - almost no one reads it) makes it worse like they're trying to hide it. They haven't sent anything home with kids from school and it's less than a week away.

I guess I'm ranting a bit. My sister has been planning to take Friday off and spend Halloween with us, but if it's on Thursday, she can't make it. There are also swarms of people that come from other towns on Halloween because our neighborhood is very secluded and has few intersections. What about all those kids?

Why can't people just leave a good thing alone?!? AAAHHHHHH!!!

Our town is TorT tomorrow afternoon. They always do it the Sunday before Halloween, unless Halloween falls on a Sunday.

My friend's neighborhood is doing it on Friday.

No idea who's in charge of this stuff...

That is so weird! I had never even heard of moving the TorTreat day until I went to college and my roommate and I were talking about it. How can they move Halloween? Why not just move Christmas too then??

The town where I grew up didn't always do it on Halloween. The usually did it on the Wednesday or Thursday night of Halloween week. Our town is doing it on Halloween this year and DH is mad. He said they often move it when Halloween is on a Friday because of high school football. He has to travel that day so will miss the kids first neighborhood trick-or-treat. We are also going to do trick-or-treating at a mall on Tuesday so he can go too.

I've never heard of that! Out here in the desert, we not only have Halloween on Halloween, but it's a state holiday. Nevada was admitted into the union on Halloween. The kids have the day off school even.

It sounds like your town might be doing it for football reasons. Isn't high school football big in Iowa? Or is that Texas?

Now if we could get your little red state to move voting day.......

OUrs is always the Sat., before Halloween. We had our yesterday and really, it's not the same because it is also during the day. Oh well, we enjoyed it anyway. Just makes me long for the good old days.

I know what you mean! There are kids here that only trick-or-treat at the mall. They're getting ripped off, IMO.

I LOVED going in the dark from house to house and seeing our neighbors in our costumes. I didn't even eat most of the candy!

Enough people must have complained because there's now a sign at the entrance to town that reads:

Trick-or-Treating
Friday 5-7

YAY!!!!! I was so excited I did the happy dance in my car, lol!

you have an entrance to your town? with a sign everyone can see?! I've never lived anywhere like that, where are you? it sounds cute.

I never heard of Halloween trick or treating being any other day but Halloween. That would really confuse me! glad to hear they moved it for you!

Thanks, Mary! I think I'm more excited than the kids are. It might be from the lack of sleep, though.

The only time Halloween was moved in our town was when it fell on a Sunday. It was moved to Saturday.
