What are the odds that all three of my boys will figure out how to climb out of their cribs ON THE SAME NIGHT?! Well, much to my astonishment and dismay, it happened about 30 minutes ago. What the heck? How about a little "Hey Mom, heads up, ONE of us figured it out, the other 2 will follow suit shortly! Save your money for some new beds!"

Oh no. There was no heads up. Just three little boys gleefully straddling their crib railings right in front of my eyes. It almost looked orchestrated, as if they had been practicing to reveal the big shocker, and tonight was their debut performance. WHAT THE HELL!

I tried not to make a big deal out of it (aside from grabbing the video camera), in hopes that they would just go on to sleep. That seems to have worked for now b/c it's quiet in there. But now what? I don't have hundreds of dollars laying around to go buy crib tents or toddler beds tomorrow! I need some impromptu ideas STAT!

Be very very firm that it is a no-no. This actually worked for me. I was all set to buy tents, but the threats actually worked! Mine started climbing out in January, and I got them to NOT do it at night...I locked their door and even more super-duper babyproofed their room (by locking, I mean a knob thing on the inside) and in the morning they would climb out and play (or climb into one bed). I made it clear that bed time was BED TIME...

At the time I was a sort of single mom--my dh was deployed--and it was a total shocker to me...and I had a mini freak out as well...so I feel your pain.

Stand your ground, and you should be able to avoid buying tents!

Good luck!

One of my boys decided to climb out about 1 1/2 months ago now. I was freaking out over it. What I did do and it seemed to work beautifully is that when he would climb out I would be waiting outside the door and I would go in and put him right back in. Honestly he only did it a handful of times and then went to bed. The next day I went and purchased a pressure mounted gate with a swing door for the boys doorway. He watched as I installed the gate and then I put them to bed for the night. He climbed out twice and came to the gate and I put him back in. Since that night he has never tried climbing out since. Maybe it is pure luck on my part but whatever it is I am grateful. I just think do not scold or make a big deal about it just keep putting them back in and walk out.
Unfortunately crib tents are not an option for my cribs so if he begins to climb out and resist my tactics then I will break down and convert the crib to a bed.
It is funny but I have read this board since I got pregnant and would think some of the posts were crazy in the sense that that could'nt really be happening...ex. climbing out of the crib, duct taping diapers, etc. but it does and when it does it happen it is in three's. Our kids may have been born early but they are the smartest toddlers I know. Good luck with bed time tonight.
P.S baby proof the room regardless just in case. If they have nothing to get out for they may not feel the need.

Order original crib tents on line for $38 each. You buy two they give you the third one free. I think the company's name is Innovative Products or something similar to that. I would highly recommend them.
good luck!
