#244, "4 Month old triplets, how do you do solids"
|
I have been reading Gina Ford's book - The contented little baby - she suggests that the second solids meal should take place after bathtime - probably the most stressful time in our home - any suggestions? Also, we tried first solids meal a couple of days ago - we had a "yes , no and maybe" reaction with our three babes - is it wise to pursue this or do we hang on until our "not-so-keen " little boy is more interested? Do you prepare all of your own food? When?
On a seperate point - how much help do you really need - any advice on feeding all three - does anyone out there have a social life - if so , how????
Any suggestions would be soooo welcome

We Have been giving the triplets rice cereal in their bottles since 4 weeks because of reflux. We haven't introduced anything else except the rice and neosure. We use the feeder bottles and give a thick cereal mixture at night and that seems to help them sleep. Jackson however refused the thick rice and continues with his little rice to formula mixture and is the only one not sleeping through the night.
I am trying to get a social life but it seems I'm so tired by the time the babies go to bed that I just want to go to bed too. I set up a time when my sister will be home and I take piano lesson which really helps me. It's a start.

Hi I have almost 4month old triplet boys and I started them on rice cereal I spoon feed them in the afternoon and after their bath/before bed I put 1 1/2 tsp in their bottle and it seems to be working for all of them, I dont know if I am giving them too much or to little but they seem to be very content..what sex are your babies?

Cheryl Ramos Lizzie 11 Matt 9 Gabby 3 Bella 2 Ally & Andy 18 mo. Kyle, Kaylie, & Kaitlyn 7 mo. Each of my children have their own high chair. I mix their food into one bowl. They all eat off of the same spoon unless only one of them is sick. But I just go down the line. one bite, one bite, one bite, then back to the first until they are done. AND FOR A SOCIAL LIFE IDON'T HAVE ONE YET AND I DON'T SEE ONE COMING SOON

my triplets ate 4 times a day at this point so what i did was :
feeding 1: oatmeal with stage 2 fruit( between all three) and a bottle each
feeding 2: one stage 2 veg (between all three) and a bottle each (when older i added a dinner)
fedding 3: one stage 2 veg and the next day fruit ( between all three) and a bottle each (when older i added a fruit)
fedding 4: bottle
BREAKFAST OATMEAL i used: 5 tablespoons of oatmeal, 3 ounces of formula (breastmilk), and 2 stage 2 jars of fruit mix together. divide all of that in half. use one half one day and the other half the next day. if you want you can use one stage 3 jar instead of two stage 2 jars, its the same consistant and its a little cheaper.
YOU CAN USE RICE CEREAL INSTEAD OF THE OATMEAL IF YOU WANT. MY TRIPLETS HAD REFLUX SO WE HAD TO THICKEN THEIR BOTTLES WITH RICE SO I ALWAYS USED THE OATMEAL FOR BREAKFAST, AND THAT WAY THEY GOT BOTH THE RICE AND OATMEAL.
hope this helps

I just started solids 1 month ago when they were 6 months. Definitely more work than a bottle. The first reaction was like I was feeding them poop, but they quickly got used to the texture and now they like it. However, they have to be in a good mood and not too hungry. Feeding them after bathtime is not an option for me. After the bath its a bottle, which calms them nicely, and then to bed with no problems as they are nice an tired and calm.
I use jarred baby food. I'm a full time worker, so I don't have time to make my own. No social life here between work and the babies. I can't give advice on feeding three, but with two, I usually feed one and rock the other with my foot in the bouncy seat and then switch. Once I had to feed them at the same time, two spoonfools each at a time, but that didn't work. They like to eat without interruptions.

My doctor recommended a very interesting approach and I find it appealing. He suggested that I test their readiness by seeing if they are watching me eat. If so, and if I have mashed potatoes or something pureed on my plate, I should take a small bit on my finger and use my finger to put this into the babies' mouths. If they suck it down and seem interest, give them a bit more. If they spit it out, they're not quite ready for solids. In short, you could have one "yes" reaction, one definite "no" and one "undecided," and you should respect the readiness of each individual baby.
He also encouraged me to feed them their formula first, since they get more nutrition from formula. They should continue to get at least 30 ounces of formula a day to be sure they're getting their nutrients, and anything solid is a bonus. Thus, this does not need to be a three times a day concept -- at least not immediately.
I smushed up a banana and finger fed little tastes of it to my baby boy. When I got to my little girl, she was sound asleep in Grammie's arms. Caidan seemed interested and like he liked it, so I'll try it again soon. Of course, since my doctor noted that the sooner babies start on solids the greater the likelihood of a weight problem, I'm really not in too monumental a hurry...
I'm planning on making my own baby foods as much as possible. I prefer the fresh fruits to those with tapioca and sugars added, and I don't like the idea of paying $5.00 a pound for carrots and squash. My plan is to cook up a specific vegetable and puree it till it's smooth in either my food processor or in the baby mill that I bought. From there, I'll use an ice cube tray, filling cubes with the food and freezing the cubes. The cubes can then be popped out and put into the freezer in a plastic bag. I'll pull out one or two cubes and heat them up for meals. I'm figuring that squash, carrots and peas are great candidates for this, as are apples and peaches. Bananas may not work as well.
Of course, we'll see how this works out. Check back with me in six months...

My pediatrician wanted us to start feeding solids (rice) cereal at 3 months my kids were not intrested. We waited a little while and by 41/2 months they liked it. As far as when to feed them I usually feed them every 4 hours they usually eat at 7, 11,3,7 mine are 9 months now but when they first started I always fed solids in the first two feeding just in case of any kind of reaction. You have to make your own schedule. What is best for you? I used to go crazy trying to do exactly the time frame that the doctor said but some times the kids are not ready. This is only my opinion. As far as a social life is concerned I am still waiting me and my husband try and get out once a week but sometimes it is not possible.
Oh almost forgot about feeding them. I personally find it very hard to feed all at the same time. On the other hand another triplet mother I know swears by it. It does give you more time I just felt overwhelmed with the whole thing. I still feed them seperatly sometimes two at a time. I think it gives me individual time with each to.
I could use more help but what are you going to do. My mother in law helps me with the morning feeding for about 1 to 2 hours then she come back at 3 for an hour or so. It would be nice to have a helper.
All this is up to you what you feel you need or want.
