#280, "THE TRIPLETS ARE HERE!!!"

This is dadof32b now just dad of three!!

Well, the triplets are here! We went to the doctor on Tuesday last week and he was a little concerned about Baby "A" and said she wasn't gaining weight at the same rate as her siblings. He gave her a shot of steroids and then we went back on Wednesday for another shot. Friday was the day the Dr.s' were going to make their decision. Well we spent about 4 hours in the office and were told to go home and pack that the babies were arriving tonight. We went to the hospital and were told that not enough staff were available and that they decided to take the babies on Saturday morning. Saturday morning came and went and our doctors were getting more and more concerned and were losing confidence in the hospital so we were transferred to another hospital. It was like night and day. They took my wife in immediately and began to prep her for the surgery. Within 2 hours of arrving at the hospital they were here.

Baby "A" - Sarah Elizabeth - 2 lbs. 11 oz. - 2:57 P.M.
Baby "B" - Garrett Ethan - 3 lbs. 3 oz. - 2:58 P.M.
Baby "C" - Hope Alexandra - 3 lbs. 4 oz. - 2:59 P.M.

The babies were born at 22 weeks 5 days. All had APGAR scores of 8 or better and Hope was breathing with no assistance from the moment of birth. Garrett came off the CPAP Sunday morning at 9:00 A.M. and has been doing very well since then. Sarah, the runt of the litter, is still on the CPAP but she is breathing room air which we are told is very good.

Mom is doing great, she walked up to the NICU on Sunday with no assistance and is now getting up on her own and has been walking around the hospital whenever she can. Mom is starting to pump for the babies but it has been slow going for the moment - I am sure that she will do just fine once she gets the hang of it.

Just wanted to let everyone know the good news since we thoroughly enjoy reading about other people in our situation. Ladies, I give you all sooooo.... much credit for going through this. If the shoe was on the other foot, I don't think I could have done this half as good as my wife has. That's it for now - I will be posting pictures and making a website for the babies soon and will post the web address and some pictures here as soon as I can. As I am sure you can all imagine I have been running around like a lunatic for the past few days.

Thank you all!

One Proud Father

Mommy to Sarah, Garrett and Hope 31w5d 3/8/03
