We will soon be traveling overseas for a few weeks with 3-year-old triplets. We will find ourselves sleeping in different places and I would like to bring along some kind of floor "bed" (to fit all 3 children) so that at least for bedtime there will be something consistent and familiar for the children regardless of where we are.
I have found thus far that on shorter trips the children are fearful to sleep by themselves (as they do at home) We (parents)also must sleep in a bed with one or 2 children, so they don't fall off the bed.
I am considering something like a huge piece of foam that I can cover with some kind of plastic and then cover with a sheet. This, however may be bulky for airplane travel...
Perhaps someone else has already come up with some creative sleeping arrangements for traveling??
I would so much appreciate a response.

How about an air mattress? Or even just sleeping bags and let them put them side by side? Good luck finding a solution. Getting a good night's sleep is so important for the kids and the parents!

I would opt for the airbed mattress. You could get a double or queen size. They usually come with a storing bag and would be fairly easy for travel. You could cover it with a fitted sheet and blanket. The ones I've have seen lately are easily inflatable and deflatable. I'm sure you would get alot of use out of it at home as well (slumber parties, camping, saving money on extra hotel rooms,company etc.) It would more than pay for itself.

I got inflatable "race car" beds for the girls. They were just the right size...and they were cheap, too :-D I got them at lakeshore.com, but they don't seem to have them anymore. I have seen them of e-bay for around 16 bucks, too...just do a search for inflatable car bed or inflatable bed.

We have an inflateable queen-size mattress that inflates in seconds, deflates quickly and packs into a bag the size of a duffel-bag. My DH thought I was crazy when I bought it, but we use it a lot, particularly as we give visitors the boys' room and they room in with us on the mattress. They have jumped and bounced on it, and it held up! it is quite comfortable, too. For adults you just add more air for more support.

I remember buying it online, sorry can't remember where, but it is called the "Bed Essentails" by aero.

Sorry for so many posts, but I wanted to add that if you travel abroad and take this bed you will need an adapter for the electrical outlets. They probably have them at Radio Shack, Sharper Image and the airlines sometimes sell them also....
