#465, "5 yr triplets - shared b-day party"

My b,g,g triplets will be turning 5 soon. Until now we have always had their b'day parties together. We are finding now that they are at the age that the boys really want to do boy things and the girls really want to do girl things. Also, the energy level increases when I have playdates with both sexes (the boys increase the energy level in the house). So we decided that we will do a seperate party for my son and one party for my daughters.

One of my daughters (the independent one) has expressed that she would like a seperate party from her sister. Logistically it does not make sense for us to have 3 seperate birthday parties. The girls friends are the same and they would be inviting the same friends to each party.

Wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how I can make each daughter feel special and their own individual on their shared birthday party?

Thank you so much for all your wonderful advice. Caroline.

I have BBG 12 yr old triplets. When they were 6, we actually did do 3 separate parties for that reason. But since the same friends would be invited we did them back to back. One was a dinosaur theme including games and a cake. Alex blew out his own candles on his cake and opened his presents. Afterwards we sent the boys out to play for 30-45 min. Then I welcomed them back in for Ben's pirate party, which had games and another cake. Then he had his time in the spotlight.

This was the only time we did 3 parties. We usually alternate between one big party for all 3 and 2 separate parties (one boy themed and one girl!) Luckily, the boys are beginning to like girls and vice versa. So I think the separate party days have come to an end. Now we have to worry about those boy/girl parties!!
