#893, "Mo-Mo Twins???"

Hi, Im new here today. I tried posting this earlier, but I
don't think it went through so I will try again. I've been
reading many of the posts since my sister found out she was
pregnant with triplets:-)and all the info. is so helpful,
thank-you. My sister was initially told that they were twins
and then a week later they found out there were 3!!!
Well, on Wed. they found out that there were a set of
identical and one fraternal, but the identical twins are
called Mo-Mo twins (Monoamniotic-Monochorionic twins),meaning
they are in one big sac but not in seperate individual sacs to
protect them. They were told this was very dangerous and that
the twins would probably not make it and that they should
abort! Well, this was not an option for my sister and her
husband and I just wanted to see if anyone else out there was
in the same situation and if you had any words of wisdom I can
pass along to her. I have passed along this website and the
support group website for this type of pregnancy to her
already. She is 11wks today PTL!!! All this is so scary and
upsetting, so I just wanted to see if I could find out any
info.
Thanks so much :-)

I was pregnant with quads. Naturally and no IVF. However mine
were monoamniotic-dichorionic quads. meaning they all had
different sacs but shared the same nutrient vessles to the
umbilical chord. We lost one at 16 weeks leaving identical
triplets. However, the doctors kept telling me that I would
most likely lose two-and if I didn't then they would have to
abort two just so one would survive. because one was stealing
all the nutrients fro the others. I had to have several
amniosentices (excuse the spelling) to withdraw excess fluid
from my womb. A very dangerous proceedure. to make things
harder I have a bicorneate uterus. (Basically: My uterus is
half the size of a normal womens. - I wasn't suppose to be
able to carry any children. My oldest (2yo) was born at 31
weeks.) However, I told the doctors not to make any rash
decisions. I told them to watch the health of my babies -
everyday if Neccessary. The best advice I can give you to
give to your sister is get all the information she can out of
the doctors. Ask a lot of questions. Don't listen to the
odds and statistics do what she feels is right in her heart.
Today I have three healthy 1+ yo boys. They were born at 27
weeks had a lot of initial complications but nothing
longterm. They are my little miricle babies. And
unfortunatly I am just beginning to be able to enjoy them.
The first year was really tough. Reply if you have any
questions. :-)

Thanks for the words of encouragement:-) Yes, both my sister
and I slowed down the reading on mo-mo twins, it was just
getting to be too overwhelming! PTL, she is 16wks today and
just found out she is having GGB, we are so excited and they
all look good with no knots in the cord, yeaaaaaaaa!!!

She has a great peri doctor and he is going to admit her a
few days before she turns 24wks to start steroids.

Do you have any suggestions for things she can do in the
hospital? We are going to put together a hospital survival
kit to give at her baby shower before she is admitted.

Thanks again,
Jessica

Congratulations to your sister. 2 of my triplets were
mono-mono. I will be happy to try and answer any questions
you may have. Just remember the doctors are going to give
worst case sencerio and the satistics are better than they
quote. There is a great web site monoaminotic.org that is
very supportive and helpful also.
You can e-mail me at tkhn2@yahoo.com if you want.

Thanks a lot. We keep hearing very positive things and we are
hanging on to that. I am so glad to hear your triplets are
doing well :-)

Both my sister and I have checked out the momo website and it
has a lot of good support, but it was also hard to read some
of the sad stories, so I haven't been reading as much.

I have sent your message to my sister so she can email you if
she has any questions. I know she has been emailing another
triplet mom that has been very helpful to her. It is so neat
to see how complete strangers can bond so quickly because of
the precious bond you all share.
God's blessings,
Jessica
