#920, "Need help with sleep/feeding schedules!"
|
Hi! I am new to the web site. My husband and I have 5 week old triplets!! They have been home from the hospital now for 2 weeks and trying to figure out how to best get them to sleep more or some way that I can sleep a little more!! Thoughts/ideas on trying to get on some sort of schedule? My husband travels for a living and is leaving tomorrow. I don't know how best to go about this on my own....any help is appreciated!!!
Thanks!!!!!

I fed mine once they woke up and at that age they only were able to stay awake about 30 minutes after that and then I put them back to bed. Mine were born at 30weeks so they slept alot when they first came home. When they came home they were on a 4 hour schedule but they soon needed to be on a 3 hour schedule, it was harder but they started to sleep longer at night because they were getting more food during the daytime. So basically the woke and were up for 30 minute and then went back down. I always had mine nap in their crib. I would hold them and they would fall asleep and then i would lay them down. Good luck, its hard in the beginning, but it will get better.

I feel fo you on your own...we have 13.5 month old triplets, however, we kept a schedule of evey 3 hours, change diaper and swaddle back to sleep. If you are alone you should buy the large moon shaped nursing pillows. you can prop the babies up in the pillows and prop the babies bottle with a blanket roll and then take turns burping. This allows on to feed all three or let one sleep if you are both home. Is there any free volunteer help in your area? good luck, take care, you will do great...Tara

Make sure that you feed them all at the same time, even if you have to wake one up, otherwise, you will never get any sleep. You may be tempted to let the other one(or two) sleep, but trust me, 10 minutes after you get back into bed, the other will be up. Mine were sleeping 10 hrs at night around 4 months so don't worry, it will happen before you know it. When they start to finish the amount that you give them, increase it by a 1/2 ounce. I was so worried about wasting milk/formula with my first daughter and paid the price because she would have slept longer as she grew if I would have increased. Also, be careful of Post-partum depression around now. That is when mine started. Don't be afraid to let them cry as long as they are safe. They won't starve in 20 minutes. Unfortunately, they set the schedule for now. Make sure you make time for yourself and cry when you need to.

I also stuck to the feeding every 3 hour schedule, change diaper and swaddle. IT WORKS!!! Their are a few other triplets in my very small town and I took their advice. Our children like the others in our town were sleeping all night by 12-13 wks. I was home by myself all day and I didnt ever feed more than one at a time. I do feel bad for you that they are still at this early stage and you're by yourself a good bit. Have strength and Faith!! You can do it and God will give you all the things you need to get through this!!! I used 3 Fisher Price Smooth Gliders and our children slept in them for the first 2-3 months....every day and at night. It moves them, plays music and keeps them propped up after feeding and you can SLEEP! not for long...but you can do it. i remember going 3 days without sleeping...at all! Better sleeping schedules are coming. By the time ours were about 10 wks old we had to put a couple of tea spoons of cereal in their bottles (per their doctor) and they did much better with their sleeping.
i'm happy to help! you can email me any time...tehantriplets@yahoo.com
