#2641, ""Twin-Triplets" - nice comment"

At Religious Ed last night the nun that runs the program was talking to me about how big my boys have gotten (mutual adoration btw my boys and Sr. Margaret). She mentioned that whenever she talks about them to her roommate (another nun) she calls them the "twin-triplets" and then she looked at me and said, "because they are triplets Marie, that's what they really are."

It was so touching to me and for once "twin" didn't feel like an ugly word.

Just thought I'd share as I think we all appreciate those that are sensitive to our children.

Marie

That really is so sweet.

I've accepted the 'twin' word because I know strangers don't know our situation. I know I'm going to hear it for a long time. I still don't like it and hate that I have to deal with it.

I loved this. Thank you for sharing it. There are some people who really understand and that is always so touching. It sounds like she even understands the fact that there is no truly accurate name for what folks are looking at when they see "two" and they are "triplets." Frankly, I think that I could be comfortable with "twin-triplets" if everyone had such a heart of love and compassion. God bless her!

I so understand. When I had my quads and then lost James at 5 days, every where I went people asked if they were "triplets." For awhile I'd say, "no, surviving quads" but then I figured they were just commenting, they probably don't know what to say when I say that so I just started saying yes. They got to be known as the triplets and I was okay with that most of the time (although I still would correct on occassion, such as if the school called them triplets I would correct them.)

But now, after losing Emma at 3 1/2 there's no way I can call them twins. Never. If people ask me if they're twins I just say no. That's all, just no. People don't know and I guess they don't realize the pain they can inflict by saying that, not knowing the loss we have all felt. But I have to say it hurts.

Twins-Triplets is nice. It acknowledges that they are triplets but look like twins. That is good. I guess we'll be twins-triplets-quads although I still think I'll drop the twins part.

Thanks for sharing.

I could just hug Sr. Margaret - you are lucky to have a special person in your lives.
