#3192, "infant urn?"

Does anyone know a good place to get a non-cheesy infant urn? We ordered a small metal heart shaped urn for Spencer, and when it arrived today they informed us he wouldn't fit into it. I don't want a vase shaped or box shaped one, and can't find anything non-cheesy online. Does anyone have any ideas?

Amanda,

I had a hard time too finding a urn. We originally used DH's late grandmother's jewelry box. But after Jaxon passed all three wouldn't fit in it. So I got mine from Things Remembered. I had the first heart engraved with "Forever in Our Hearts" and then in the second heart had their names engraved. It really turned out perfect. And I think in a way the two hearts represent DH and I and they clasp together. So I like that. It is not a urn, but a jewelry box. It doesnt lock, but I like that because I still look at them. Here is the link to the one I have. This one would be big for your dear Spencer, but you could also place other things in it. If you would like to see a picture of our engraved let me know and I will send you one.

We also had a tough time picking out 3 urns that would fit into just over a cubic foot of space at the mausoleum. The walls of the niche are made out of plexi-glass, so we can see the urns anytime we want. You can also see through the niche to the outside - which is a pretty treeline. We chose simple small marble cubes (Glacier White) from mainelyurns.com. that are 4"x4"x4". We just had there full names and a single date etched on each cube (didn't make sense for us to put both dates since they passed away the same day they were born). The pictures on the website don't do them justice. They are quite elegant-looking.

Among other things, our triplets received small stuffed animals (beanie baby size) as gifts from the nurses. Oliver got a dog, Avery got a bear, and Thomas got a bunny. So, we found matching collectible Swarovski crystal figurines (only about 1 inch high) to place on top of each urn (we put a small mirror under the figurine). We were AMAZED that the Swarovski bunny had ears exactly like Thomas's bunny. Likewise, we found a perfect match for Oliver's dog. Avery got an adorable pink teddy bear, and her figurine is carrying a small pink heart balloon. You don't expect to be complimented on your babies' urns, but ours turned out so tasteful- and beautiful - and meaningful all at once. They are just so precious. We haven't taken pictures yet, but I'll be more than happy to show you when we do.

I don't have experience picking out an infant urn but about a year after my grandma died I wanted to get a urn for her and my grandfather. I just went to one of the nearby chapels and ordered one out of catalog and personalized it. I know most chapels have small keepsake urns that families get to divide ashes. I hope you find the right one for your son. I hope this helps.
