#4563, "Ouch"
|
This past Friday I had to take Gabrielle to get a hip ultrasound; since she was breech (the doctor yanked her out by her feet, god am I glad I had drugs for that), she was at risk for hip dysplasia.
I'm not sure what the question or comment was that caused me to say "They were actually triplets," but say it I did. The tech then said, "Triplets! What's it like raising triplets?"
"Well, one of them died," I said.
"Oh," she said. "So what's it like raising twins?"
Ugh, shoot me.

No, shoot HER. Dumb! I have been in that same conversation a few times only the quicker thinking people I was talking to went on to ask what it's like to raise two babies. I never mind the substitution of "two babies" for twins and have used it myself. I never thought I would hate a word so much...

Amy,
that's awful. I never thought I would hate a word so much either. I cringe every time I hear it. The thing that surprises me is how many medical professionals say that.
I hope Gabrielle's ultrasound went well. How much do they weigh now? I bet they are growing fast!

A couple of weeks ago I was having some test done. The man doing them works with Jackies kids other grandma, he know we lost Hayden, so he knows they are triplets. Then he said did'nt the twins just have a birthday? I saw RED and said I don't mean to sound nasty but they are triplets not twins. Hayden is still their triplet brother, that never changed because he passed away.
Grandma to 24 weekers Preston, Madison and Hayden Hayden got his wings May 15 07 only 14 months old

Ugh, I truly hate that word. Unfortunately, quite a bit of the time when I correct people they have something really dumb to say back which makes the whole situation even worse. For some reason it is very often people in the medical field. Sorry about your experience. Did everything end up okay with Gabrielle?

Definatly and ouch. You would think that there paperwork would have them down as triplets. But they don't. Its so frustrating. I ran into a set of newborn twins boys and felt like my heart was ripped out. I hope the appt went well. Our little angel ^Alex Joseph^ (11-4/11-5) Brennan Matthew Christian Jacob

Just wanted to add that Im sorry most of you have to go through the constant explaining. Im sure its a hard struggle and that you will continue to have to fight that battle, and its just not fair. Especially with people in the medical field, how insulting. What a stupid brainless comment. I know how you feel. During the two weeks after losing Kenzie. All the medical staff and even my own family started to call Pat and Abby twins. Made me so mad. Sorry if I hijacked your post. Stephanie Mom to Riley, ^Kenzie^ 10-16-08 ^Pat^, and ^Abby^ 10-30-08

I just had the boys Primary Nurse from the NICU call them triplets. Of all people she should know better. I'm still angry and it happened a week ago. I keep waiting for it not to sting, but I am realizing that it really never will...thank you to all the ladies on here to help me come to terms with that.
Amy, I hope you are doing well. Your girls are simply precious! Karen Mom to Patrick, William, and our Angel Hunter 7-14-08
