#4582, "Outside Mural Painting"

I am looking into doing a mural painting outside for the girls but want it to be removable in case we ever move (thats not in the forecast, but ya never know where life takes you these days!).

Does anyone have any ideas on what type of surface would be good for that and also what type of paint would hold up well (not fade or smear)?

Thanks for any input. xo

I used to be a sign painter so you have a couple of options;

1. Find pretreated canvas in the size you want, meaning it has been gessoed for you. Use regular arcylic paint and then polyurethane the heck out of it. Do maybe 3 thin layers. If you google hand painted floor rugs/mats you will get step by step instructions.

2. Use a good grade of plywood. Paint with acrylic paints and polyurethane that too.

I live in Texas so I would help you out if you are close by.

Hi Suzan,
Thank you so much for your suggestions and offer to help! I wish I lived close but I am in Pennsylvania. My best friend is going to help me since she has the artsy hand, but she hasn't done any paintings for outdoors - this will help greatly. Thanks again,
Nan

The mural I have in my backyard was done with outdoor craft paint bought at micheals. Some little areas have faded a little bit, but nothing that someone else would notice. When we move I will just paint over it I won't want to but I don't think someone will want to stare at it like I do. Our mural was painted on brick that first was all painted white. Pictures are on my site...

Hi Rachel,
I had seen your mural and that was my inspiration! I know you had a different background to work on (brick), and I only have really old siding on our detached garage. So that was another thing - if I decided to even get new siding it would have to be moved. You can take the wall with you if you move, and if you can't atleast you have alot of pics to remember it and make a new one! I know my husband said that if we ever move, now matter how big our girls' tree gets, its comin with - that would be interesting to see...LOL. But I love that he thinks that way. I had sent you an email the other day - just wondering if you got it. Hope all is well. xo Nan
