#4979, "should we go for it??"

My husband and I recently found out that we are expecting
triplet. Doing fertility work I was hopeful for twins but
was completely shocked when we saw 3 beating hearts on the
ultrasound. My doctors seem to be leaning towards having us
reduce but I am torn. I lost twins 2 years ago at 22 weeks
due to what they decided was an incompetent cervix. Last
year I gave birth to my son. After 5 days past my due date
and no sign of his arrival we ended up inducing. Throughout
his pregnancy I had no issues with my cervix or anything else
for that matter and so I am really not sure what the best
thing to do is. Right no we are 10 weeks and all three
babies are thriving....
I would so appreciate hearing from anyone who has been in a
similar situation.

Thanks so much
Catherine

Hi Catherine,

I think that you will get more responses if you post this on
the main forum board. I am so sorry about the loss of your
twins. I really don't know if you will get much of a
response here, but you will have a lot of responses on the
main board. Good Luck!

Catherine:

I agree with the pp about maybe getting more responses on the
other forum site, but this is an excellent place to get good
advice from others who have lost a multiple pregnancy and
later carried despite having an incompetent cervix. I would
especially urge you to get a very proactive doctor involved
and get a heavy-duty cerclage put in by about 12 weeks. And,
you might be looking at some bedrest, but then all of us were
when we were pregnant with triplets.

Frankly, we have others at TC who lost twins and then
successfully carried triplets; one who lost triplets and then
successfully carried twins. The biggest issue is getting the
best doctor you can.

Good luck to you, and I'm so sorry about the loss of your
babies.

Hi Catherine, congratulations on your pregnancy...

I understand your fear, two of my triplets passed away due to
extreme prematurity complications. In my next pregnancy, for
the first 6 weeks, we thought we were having twins. I WAS
TERRIFIED! I didnt want multiples again, not knowing that I
could loose my babies again and go through such deep pain.

At 8 weeks there was only one baby, and I carried to term
(37.3 wks), some minor setbacks, no cerglage, p-17 shots,
some bouts of bedrest. I was sure that I was home free when
I delivered at term. Guess what? my baby´s lungs collapsed 6
hours after he was born, and he spent 2 horrible weeks at the
NICU very sick.

On the other hand, my bf carried triplets to 34 weeks, first
pregnancy, they were all born healthy, no breathing
assistance needed, just feeders and growers for 8 days in the
NICU. They are perfectly healthy.

Lesson? Every pregnancy is different and every pregnancy can
be risky or perfect. God sends us these little angels and has
a very beautiful plan for each one of them, either if it is to
be angels amongst us or with Him. Trust His decision. Good
Luck!
