Julie, It does not sound strange to me. I would take my daughter every few months to the cemetery and have a picnic luch there with her big brother. To this day she still goes out there to have talks with him when things are bothering her. I am very glad I made her feel confortable with this idea at a young age.
I am glad that the outing went well- and the visit from the butterfly could not have been better.

Hi Julie, Thanks for sharing your very special outing. I too have always wanted to do something similar. I have seen others near graves of their loved ones in the cemetary eating and thought to myself, "what a neat idea!" One time I did bring my lawn chair, and sat with my living children on my daughter's grave while we read her a story. That was really special. 7mozz
