#122, "car seats"
|
Hi everyone! We're trying to select car seats that will be safe, practical, and economic. We ideally would like one that they will be able to use for the longest amount of time possible as money is a real issue for us. Please...any suggestions would be most helpful! Also, we noticed they sell the headrests seperately that snuggle around the babies heads. Is this also something we should pick up? Loretta

That is a tough call. I assume, you are looking for something to hold infants? I used a carrier (Peg Perego and Graco Snugride) for a year, then swithced to the Britax Roundabout. We LOVE the Britax, but it is very expensive and you said money is an issue. I also am not sure it would have been good for infants. We were big fans of the carriers....but that does not solve your problem.

Our NICU told us absolutley NEVER to use the head snuggly things. They said that in crash tests the headrest harmed the babies more than it helped. I never saw any literature to back this up, but they made us take them out of our carseats (when we brought them in for carseat testing) and they were so strong about it (we asked different nurses on different shifts just to see if they all said the same thing and they did) that we never put them back in.

Hello! When we brought our triplets home, we used the carriers. We got ours from Wal-Mart. They are not expensive. I think we paid $40 for each of ours. They lasted until the babies were a year old, when they weighed 22 pounds. Then we switched to Graco booster seats that also come with the 5 point harness. I think we paid $60 for those. You can use those until they reach 80 pounds. So hopefully we will not have to buy any more car seats.
