I need to buy a vacuum cleaner and we have hardwoods floors. Any suggestions? I thought the Hoover cleaner that uses water with the rotating brushes looked effective at cleaning up milk stains and other toddler remenats.

I will also be purchasing a vacuum cleaner to clean the couch, any recommendations?

Thanks

hi - I have hardwood and use the Oreck - absolutely the best purchase for us. It works great on tile, hardwood, rugs and carpet. We also have a carpet cleaner for the upholstery and shampooing carpet.

We were told NOT to use a water-type vacuum on hardwood - that it would damage them - leaving water marks that will not be removed.

good luck - I know it is an expensive decision.

I agree that you should not use a cleaner with water on the hardwood floor. Hardwood needs special treatment. We damp mop our floor with vinigar and water and dry it immediately. Water on a wood floor can get in the cracks and cause it to buckle.

I have a Hoover steam cleaner with the brushes and love it for cleaning the carpet, but would not not use it on the hardwood. Any powerful vacummn would work. The upright vacuums are the most powerful, but may not get into the corners as well as a handheld attachment. We have an attachment with a long pole to use as a sweeper, but our vacuum is many years old.
