What are you wanting to print photos for? Are these the occasional photo to give to family, or are they for your own family albums? As an avid family historian (aka scrapbooker) I researched this issue a great deal. The process by which a photo is created is not the same as the processes used by professional photo developers. Ink Jet photos will last you about 25 years. Professional photos are archival quality and will last many, many generations, if not indefinitely. In addition to this the per photo development price is about the same as professional developing if not higher. If you want photos that will last then consider an online developer, uploading is easy if you have a cable modem.

Here's a comparason of online developers..

listed as follows...

If you are still wanting a photo printer here is a little blurb that Consumer Reports printed recently...

Inkjet printers continue to get faster, with new models printing text at more than 8 pages per minute. Color text and photos take longer, but some printers are relatively speedy; the fastest models tested produced an 8x10-inch photo in about 2 minutes. Some printers use special photo inks, adding light cyan and light magenta ink. But you can expect excellent-quality text and photos from many inkjets. Cost per page ranges from a low of 3 cents or so per text page to more than 8 cents, and from 80 cents to $1.60 per 8x10-inch photo.

Best of the pack are the Canon Color Bubble Jet S520 and the Canon Photo Printer S530D, which both produced outstanding text and photos quickly and relatively inexpensively. The S520 and the Hewlett Packard DeskJet 3820, both $100, are CR Best Buys. Both delivered excellent text and color photos, and good print speed for text, though the HP was slow in printing color photos. The Canon Color Bubble Jet S330 also produced excellent text and good photos. Printing speed was fast for both text and photos.

Happy Photo Making!
