#201, "triple stroller opinions, please"

Hello. We are expecting triplets this November and I'd love to hear people's opinions about which stroller(s) to buy.

The Peg Perego seems popular but can only take two infant car seats.
The BabyTrend SnapNGo type seems utilitarian enough (can take three infant car seats), but I've heard it's rather cumbersome to actually steer.
The Inglesina seems nice but I guess it's not really for infants and it's enormous.

We live in San Francisco (lots of hills) and have a laughably narrow garage. Do people buy a SnapNGo type stroller to begin with and then move onto a regular stroller?

Thanks, everyone!

I have a Baby Trend, and it is a pain to steer. We got it from my husband's office as a gift, so we were pretty much stuck with it. If I had a choice, we would have gotten a Runabout.

Joohee,

I would get a Triple Decker for their infant stage (up to around a year - or more if they are small) and a Runabout for after they graduate from the TD.

We took this approach and really liked it. The TD will accomodate three infant seats and folds up flat to fit in the trunk! It is expensive but we got over 80% of the cost back when we sold it after using it for 18 months. We got our Runabout used and saved quite a bit of money that way. Neither stroller is pretty but they both have superior functionality (easy to push over any terrain, comfortable for the babies, easy to maneuver through doors and down halls, etc.)

Regards,

John

We also bought the Triple Decker stroller which I love...it's easy for one person to get out with three babies. I will miss this when they outgrow it. Great resale too if you buy it new, we bought ours used. We bought a Peg Perego for after the TD....not as simple as the Triple Decker...but nice enough and the babies can lay down....appears to have a comfortable ride and is a lot nicer looking then the runabout. (we also have a double and two single strollers-if someone offers to give these to you...take them...they come in handy...even to use in the house to push around a cranky baby...) Good Luck to you!

I had an Inglesina for the first year. I then got a runabout and LOVE it. The Inglesina was great but very wide. I had difficulty getting through lots of doorways and down certain isles. Although, it is a nice ride. We used it from day one. We never got the infant carriers because I figured we would never have that many arms. I just took them in and out of their carseats and put them into their stroller. I did love that they all layed flat. That was something that was very important to me. Of course, I hadn't seen the triple decker. I probably would have started with that one if I knew it was avaiable. I think most of the strollers give you great returns when re-selling.

Good Luck,

RUNABOUT,runabout, runabout!!!!
They have great resale, we bought ours used. The company has great customer service and are a family business. (Would never buy a Peg Perego product again after a very rude customer service experience!) They go to 55 lbs per seat and I hope to use mine til the babies are 4 although the babies might have other ideas!
Go with the runabout and I doubt you'll regret it.
Colleen
Addendum: if the triple decker was available for the first year I would go for that and then the runabout. If finances are a consideration the runabout can fit small infants with an insert to add more stability.

I have also looked at different strollers and found a J. Mason, Runabout, Peg Perego. There is a significant price difference between the J. Mason and the two others and the dealers where I live don't carry these in stock (order only). One dealer went so far as to call the J. Mason as junk compared to the others but it collapses without the need to disassemble and is still useful up to toddler weights. I am confused as to why the significant price increase of the others with the obvious exception that the Perego is italian made.
Can anyone tell me what the differences are

Richard

Everyone I have heard from that bought the less expensive J Mason was dissatisfied with it. Their babies seemed to outgrow it much more quickly, and many of them "advanced" to a Runabout in the end. Several parents also complained that it became very difficult to maneuver as their children grew, even if they could all physically fit in it. Check out the archives for strollers. I can not speak from personal experience (we're due in January '04) but I would be afraid to purchase a J Mason despite the nice price. If you do want to get one, there may be several used ones for sale.
