#239, "1500 STE Convertible Car Seat by Century"

How is this seat? I looking into buying 3 new seats,my boy is now 20 lbs and has out grown his infant seat.the two girls are not that big.
They are 8 months old. I have a Honda Oddessy for a van and would like to be able to put 3 on the bench seat if I had too.
Any input would be great.

Thank yo

I would measure the seats that you have and the bench seat,
Then measure the ones you want, because even in my full size Yukon I have to use one different seat for them to fit correctly. I just switched mine to boosters! Boy am I doing the happy dance! I don't have to get back there and unbuckle them anymore...

First off I'm just a lurker, a friend of mine has triplets born last November. I am a carseat nerd though. The 1500STE is a fine seat, although there are many better options. The cons to the 1500STE is that the car's seat belt is placed over the babies legs when rear facing, meaning it's in the way while trying to place the baby in the seat. Also the rear facing weight limit is a very low 22 lbs. Since your babies aren't a year (or even adjusted to a year) they have to stay rear facing. The one pro to the 1500STE is that it's a 5point harness, very critical. Here are some more options, least expensive to much more expensive:

Cosco Regal Ride / Touriva $49
*this seat does come in 5pt and shield versions, choose the 5pt* The basic of all seats. Check for the new version called the Regal Ride (Target.com had it.)

Graco ComfortSport / Century Accel $69 -$99
depends on trim level (cloth vs leather) Graco bought Century, it's the same seat. *this seat also comes in 5pt and shield versions, choose the 5pt* Basic seat, no extra's but well designed seat.

Safety 1st Comfort Ride $69
The same seat as the Regal Ride / Touriva with better padding.

Evenflo Triumph $120
A little more for your buck. EPS foam (bike helmet foam) around child's head and useful features such as memory harness to help get child in and a knob to tighten harness.

Britax Roundabout/Advantage $200
Although expensive, the best seat out there. EPS foam, no twist harness, rear facing tether strap and on and on.

Britax Marathon/Wizard $230
A bigger Roundabout, bigger and better. This seat has a weight limit of 65lbs, all other convertibles limit is 40lbs.

All of these seats are 5pt and rear face to at least 30lbs. It is crucial to keep babies rear facing as long as possible, the *minimum* is one year adjusted age AND over 20lbs. Since you want the possiblity of all three together I would head off for a baby store and try a bunch of seats in your car. The Regal Ride is the narrowest carseat out there, next to fit would be the ComfortSport. The Triumph might not be a option for you as the adjuster knob is on the side of the seat and would be difficult if not impossible to reach if the seats are beside each other. Britax might be out of budget and would not fit 3 across.

There are many more car seats out there, these are *my* top choices. One seat people will tell you that you need is the Cosco Alpha Omega 3 in 1 (also called Eddie Bauer.) The seat is big and bulky and does NOT last until 80lbs. Don't waste your money.

A wonderful resource is the CPS website. http://www.cpsafety.com/ Another great site for seeing which seats fit your car is http://www.carseatdata.org

I've rambled on here, I hope you understood what I've written. If you have more questions I'd be happy to help.
