Any good pros to the playtex premium nurser? I am tired of cleaning the doctor brown bottles with all the parts. Mine eat from bottle and breast and wanted to try a new bottle. Any suggestions would help. Thanks

I do bottle and breast and we use the Avent bottles. Avent bottles have been clinically proven to reduce colic as well as better mimic the breast. Here is what their web site states under their clinical trials:

The design of the AVENT bottle offers a number of advantages over conventional feeding bottles:

Newborns fed with the AVENT anti-vacuum bottle had a duration of colic significantly less than those fed with conventional bottles
Newborns fed with the AVENT anti-vacuum bottle spent significantly more time awake and content
In each case, newborns fed with the AVENT bottle had a behaviour closer to breast fed babies
Newborns fed with AVENT suffer less from colic and spend more time awake and content
The unique shape of the AVENT teat allows the baby to suckle as at the mother's breast
Since the baby uses the same sucklingmovement with the AVENT bottle as at the breast, alternating between breast and bottle feeding is made much easier should expressed breast milk or supplementary feeds be required
The wide neck of the AVENT bottle makes filling easy and the scale is accurate and easy to read
The wide neck and shape of the bottle is easy to clean and therefore more hygienic
The dome cap seals the teat for leak proof mixing and travel
Handles and a soft spout transform the bottle into a training cup when the time comes to wean the baby from breast or bottle and from suckling to sipping

HTH!

We tried several including the AVENT which didn't work well for us. The bottle were big and cumbersome and the girls did do well with them.

I had one with severe reflux and one with NEC, dumping syndrom, ostomy and repair and irritable bowel. Believe or not, the best bottle for reducing our epidsodes with colic, gas and reflux was the PLAYTEX VENTAIRE which you can use with either a regular nipple made for the bottle or one for babies transitioning from the breast.

They were inexpensive and easy to clean for us, and any parts were inexpensive and easy to find. The company was also easy, great to work with.

We had 3 small and 6 large ones for each baby, we cleaned and filled all our bottles for a 24 hour period at one time, which made feeding easy.

I still recommend these to folks, even our peds wife, and everyone who tried them switched to them. I don't know if they'll be as great for you, but it might be worth a try.

We tried all sorts of bottles (Avent, Dr. Browns, Playtex) and ended up using the plain Gerber. My babes did the best with them. They were the most similar to the ones they used in the hospital (including the nipples). They are easy to clean, easy to read, one of the cheapest out there, and they come in 3 different colors! What more could you ask for?!? The Evenflo are similar but are harder to read. Hope this helps!

We started on the Playtex Designers and quickly (2days) realized we were spending the same amount of time washing the parts that we would regular bottles and the liners were going to become costly. They were also hard to read. Bottom line for us there was for the amount of liners for one month we could buy a new set of bottles.

So we did, we bought the small evenflo colored bottles. These worked great because the hospital sent bags of disposable nipples home. This worked until we ran out of nipples. We bought nome NUKs to replace the disposables but they just collapsed. So we moved to the Avent because we had heard all kinds of great things about them.

I can't tell if they help prevent Colic but I can tell you they drive me crazy! If you're not holding your mouth just right when you the put the nipple on the darn things will leak all over you! I don't know what it is, but they leak out from under the ring where the air should vent. I've soaked my boys several times. Since we spent so much buying them I've stuck with them, frustration and all. If you're going this route check at Target for the Circo brand. They are exactly the same bottle but much cheaper. Matter of fact, the Circo nipples fit the Avent bottles and are a third of the price. Oh yeah, the Circo nipples aren't the leakage problem.

Had I known then what I know now about bottles, I would have stuck with Evenflo or Parents choice with the nubby nipples, cheap and easy!

I had the same thing happen a few times - but if you screw/unscrew the lid it usually seals up correctly. Otherwise remove the nipple from the ring and re-insert it.

I put my nipple/ring combination right into the dishwasher INTACT and I haven't had any leaking issues in a LONG time.
