#1134, "A fun day..."

A "Paddlefest" is being held this weekend on the bay. We went yesterday (today is housechores, yard work, painting, et al...and besides, the wind has picked up to 20 knots today and yesterday was perfect on the water).

Alex and I did the 2.5 mile fun race (in a two person kayak) .. once around the island. We did it in 40 minutes -- no bad considering it was only my second time in the kayak since my sister and BIL lent it to us and also Alex did no paddleing himself. Later in the afteroon, Bryce and Calder joined me in the boat for the parade -- led by a tour boat full of the local college marching band.

Alex got a prize for being the youngest "paddler" in the race (he did actually do a few strokes) and we did manage to win a couple of prizes in the raffle.

Eventualy I would like to do some kayaking out in the ocean -- but that will have to wait until next year as the weather and sea conditions are starting their seasonal change for the rougher...and my skill/experience level and protective gear are minimal right now. We'll stick to the bay, lagoons and flat rivers around here for now.

Hope everyone else are having/had a great weekend!

Vaugn

Sounds like a great day on the water! I can't wait til our boys are old enough to take on such adventures. I have done some kayaking and have always had a blast. A trip in Utah was the best...along the Green River.

Hello Curtis!

Yes, things are getting even more fun as the Boys are getting older. At two years old I was taking the Boys for hikes in the redwoods...up to a couple of miles and the Boys each carried their own little backpack that had their lunches in them. Of course I ended up carrying a boy every once in a while.

Soon I will be able to do my photography in the redwoods and just tell the Boys to go off and play for a while. I have taken them before, but what I did was to find the photo I wanted to take, then break out lunch to keep them in one place for the time it took to take the photo.

The noise and activity level has ramped up considerably lately...they just don't get enough energy burnt up at school it seems!

I've only been whitewater kayacking once -- I remember spending more time upside down than up!
