#1558, "New Dad to this forum and looking for advice"

My one daughter does not like pacifiers. She doesn't take one at any point during the day and at first I thought this was a good thing because we wouldn't have to break her of it but for the last 4 days she has hit a phase where she is waking up constantly at night. Our other daughter gets up once but a paci puts her back to sleep and son is a great sleeper so we rarely have to do anything overnight with him. We try not to pick them up if they do get up and instead just pat them and give them their pacifier but our daughter who doesn't like them we have no choice but to pick her up because she won't go back to sleep. Anyone else's kid(s) not like pacifiers and if so any tips on getting them to back to sleep without picking them up? Thanks.

P.S. Our trips our 6 and half months old (4 and half corrected) so they just started sleeping pretty well and we have a pretty good schedule going minus this new waking up 6 times my daughter is doing.

If you post your question on the main forum, you'll get more responses. I'm not a dad, but a mom and I'm wondering if your daughter could be teething. A little Tylenol at bed time might help her. Good luck.

Thank you for your input. I was wondering where I should put this question and probably should have put it on the main forum since that has more traffic. We thought it could be teething but didn't try Tylenol. Once again thanks for your advice.

Welcome.

Sounds like teething to me too. I go with pat butt first, then gas drops, then Tylenol unless I know it is probably teething like tonight. I went straight for the Tylenol: tooth #4 on baby #3 coming in. We aren't big on picking up babies either.

Last night was infinitely better than the last 4 or 5 (lost track) and all we did was give her the gas drops at her 7PM feed. She got up once at 10 but that was because she was wet and hates being in a dirty diaper so we changed her gave her 11PM feed and she slept until 6AM. Tonight is another night so we will see what happens.

I am glad last night went better for you. Sorry I can't be of much help. My boys are 12 yrs old and I think my brain has blocked out a lot of info from those early days!

I hear you. Granted it has only been a few short months for us but it is still amazing to think about the changes that have already happened. It seemed like yesterday we were dealing the apnea monitors and every 2 hour feeds. I stopped trying to overanalyze everything and just deal with what is happening at the moment because even though we have a pretty good sleeping and eating schedule no 2 days are ever the same and trying to duplicate a particularly good day does not yield the same results. So I just enjoy every moment because they are already getting to big to fast.

Sorry for not welcoming you to the forum, I'm slacking a bit!

We also have one that wants nothing to do with a pacifier. We know that it's good for a baby to go to sleep with one, as it is yet another help in preventing SIDS. But at the same time, it's nice that an addiction to a pacifier doesn't occur (which can lead to sucking thumbs, etc.)

Just wanted to say that it's nice to see another dad here in the forum. And that I'm extremely jealous yours are sleeping through the night!!! (Joking of course, I enjoy the 2 a.m. feedings as I'm a bit nocturnal anyway!)

Indeed, welcome to the forum!

Sorry I am of absolutely NO help regarding pacifers, but the chances of me asking you for advise regarding pacifiers in the next couple of months is exremely likely!

Rick - great pic of the babies man! They look great!

Hey Todd.

So nice to read about the 27 week visit. Katie is doing great, and sounds like everything is going perfectly. We know exactly how you feel about having reached this point, and how the survival rate afterward is 95%. That's such a relief in itself.

The same goes for the prayers, and how much it means to you. We shared the same sentiment, as they were so treasured by us.

I laughed when you said how Katie is eating like crazy! My dw didn't really gain a lot of weight before having the babies, but the things she would eat were so hilarious!

Best of luck and look forward to great news after your doctor gets back.... or as we say here.... Bonne continuation!!!

Thanks Rick! Things still are going well into week 28. Katie is getting bigger and more uncomfortable at night. Our next set of measurements are a week from Monday on the 15th when our Peri gets back from Europe. That will be real interesting...

I love reading the posts from you guys! Hope all the pregnancies are going well!

Thanks for the welcome everyone. It is nice to have a place to talk with other Dad's who have or are experiencing what I have and will as it is hard to relate to my friends with single children. Not in a bad way it is just different.

Todd,
Good luck the rest of the way I know once we hit 28 weeks we were somewhat relieved as our doctor told us a bunch of stats about development and other things and if I remember correctly the numbers jumped up pretty dramatically at 28 weeks. I hope you continue to post on your progress and wish you and your family the best.

Hi Mario.

As you said, it's nice to see a forum with a father's section just for dads of multiples. (Or in our case, triplets or more).

Your trio are 4 and a half months older than ours. But if we add in the prematurity weeks, yours are 3 and a half months older (ours were born somewhere near the beginning of the 35th week. It always baffles me how people seem to know exactly what day their trio is born into a pregnancy. We never kept a calendar of "lights-out" activity!)

Have you experienced a lot of the oooohs & ahhhhs from people when you are out with your triplets? We've been out a few times with all three in the same carry-cradle, and of course that draws attention. Don't know if it will be better or worse with the triple-stroller.

Like you, it's difficult to relate to friends with single children, and especially those with no children. For me, it's been fascinating because so many parents talk about the difficulties they have with their 'child', but for us it's always our 'group of children'. Sometimes when I go out and bring one or two of the babies with me, when I come home my wife will say.... "Oh I got so much done with the freedom I had!" Even though a baby or two was still with her, it was like no hassle at all. Singleton parents cannot understand something like this.

Thanks for posting in this forum. Hope we can have more dads popping in from time to time.

Best,

Rick
