I'm a huge golf fan so....anyone have comments on Vijay Singh??? I hear his comment may have been taken out of context. Will Sorenstam make the cut this week?? I bet she makes the cut but doesn't contend.

My DW a big golf fan and a former collegiate golfer. Grace predicts Annika misses the cut. Colonial is one of the more difficult layouts on the PGA tour and Annika will be hitting middle and long irons to greens that the men are hitting short irons to. The golf course layout will overmatch her.

DW also says watch out for Se Ri Pak on the LPGA tour. Annika is so hung up on this PGA tour stop that Se Ri is giving Annika a chase and is currently narrowly ahead of the Swede narrowly on the money list. The South Korean has been 2nd or 3rd on the money list four of her five years on the LPGA.

I don't know enough about golf to argue effectively with Grace but my guess is DW is right.

I would like to see Annika make the cut. I will surely be watching and I guess that is what the PGA wants....publicity. I don't watch a lot of golf but love the game. I do like to see Tiger play well and am amazed by his talent. I am a fan of "lefty" too and feel bad for the guy to be so good but never be able to win the big ones. But I will be following this weekend to see Annika. I think Tiger said it best though when he said that she really should be able to play 5 tournaments b/c so many variables can screw up one tournament. Nerves alone are going to be huge. Vijay looks like an ass no matter what context he spoke in. Just like when Fuzzy Zoeller made the poor comments about Tiger a few years back. Don't speak to the media out of the corner of your mouth if you don't expect it to be used against you.....idiots.

I heard on ESPN that Vijay's quote was "I hope she doesn't make the cut if I don't make the cut". Funny how the media chose not to finish the quote. Not saying he was right saying what he said just saying the media often taints the true story.

Well, that is not entirely true. He also said, he would withdraw if he got paired with her:

"Why? Because she doesn't belong out here," Singh said. "If I'm drawn with her, which I won't be, I won't play."

Yes the media does spin the story for interest, but he said what he said and it was not the smartest thing to do. He needs to let her playing speak for itself. It is a shame that he withdrew from the tournament for "rest." I think he knew that if he had an off day and Annika was on, and she happen to beat him, he would NEVER live it down.

I think she will get crushed this weekend, but let her playing show us that rather than some wiseguy's comments.

I think it's great for the publicity. The PGA tour donates a lot of money to various charities. That tournament will generate much more money with Annika in the tournament than they would with Vijay. If it brings more publicity and therefore more charitable money, I'm all for it. I hope she makes the cut. I won't be able to watch on Thursday or Friday. If she makes the cut, I'll at least be able to catch some on the weekend.

I think that is part of it too....Vijay is ticked b/c she is getting more media attention than he is and he just won a tournament.....he is getting more media attention for putting his foot in his mouth. I guess good or bad publicity is still publicity....right?

I think one of the Williams girls played against a lower ranked male a few years back and she got whooped. I may have made that up, but I really seem to remember that happening.

They said that the real difference between the men and women tennis players is in the serving speed. The women couldn't return, and the men are easily able to return the womens' serves.

He's an idiot....

Here is the thing about him that really irritates me: I have no idea what nationality he is, but I know he is not a white caucasian man. There was a day when HE would not have been allowed to play with these snobby white men. You would think that he would stand behind her as someone trying to break into the exclusive white-man club. I guess he thinks its OK to discriminate against one kind but not another....even if that other was once discriminated against.

I play hoops at the Y for lunch, usually a bunch of 20- or 30-year old guys. A couple of college girls played today. They were decent -- and I'm glad I wasn't guarding them cause they scored their share of points.

Even if Annika beats one guy -- that guy's in trouble. I'll be watching. She should shoot around par. It just depends where the cut line is.

I agree. And her entry is good for the game of golf and for the people trying to make money from the tournament. I like the whole thing.

But I don't think she will shoot close to par. Too much pressure and distraction to expect anyone in her position to play well.

It's too early for me to gloat but she's doing respectable. It's odd that putting was her downfall. She hit every green but couldn't 2-putt. I guess putting is where your shaking hands let you down.
