#380, "new swing set kicked my but!"
|
I started assembling the new swingset this weekend before getting rained out. What a pain! Nothing is labeled, the bag of hardware had to weigh over 15 pounds, almost no words in the instructions. It should have come with a gift certificate for beer! I got over 75% done before getting rained out and that took 7 hours.
When done it will be cool. Three swings, spiral slide, rock climbing wall, two ladders, monkey bars, attached table, and covered platform. I don't think DW will let them on anything but the swings for this year, although I can see Aidan sitting on the very top if we let him.
I've got 4 yards of playground mulch (double shredded hardwood) coming next week. I'll try and post a picture when done.
Anyone else get to have the pleasure of assembling one of these monstrosities?

Jonathan,
I can totally relate! My FIL and I put together one of these things a couple years ago (almost to the day, it was over Memorial day weekend). Mine has two swings, a monkey bar, platform, stairs, and a cargo netting rope climb. It took us one entire day and three evenings to complete.
The hardest part for us was getting the darn A-frames and main I-beam together. The thing is about 10' tall when upright, so we had to find a way to hold the I-beam up long enough while we attached the A-frame with the hangars. My FIL got a nasty bump on the head from the I-beam falling.
Then to top it off, after 15 hours of hammering in nails, at the back of the instructions it says "Wood Screws can also be used if desired"! How about that? That would have saved a ton of time!
It was all worth it though when I saw how excited my son was to get to play on the thing. He still uses it and I know our four new ones will put the set to its limits. Guess I should get out there and give it the yearly inspection for loose nails! Shane

I was hired to help a customer assemble one of these for his kids. When I took the job I thought We'd breeze through it in half a day and was suprized when it took a day and a half. Recently as my guys have outgrown there K Mart swing set I started pricing these things and found out they arn't cheap and decided to put that money toward material for a tree house come play area in the trees behind our house.
This past weekend finished up making the windows in the shop and have to head out to find some branches to make the railing. When it is done I hope to have it include three swings a slide and a flying fox/zip line 160' to a walnut on our back lawn ...and maybe a bridge to another tree where I'd put the steps.
I think I'm having more fun building this than my kids will have playing in /on it.
