Book Report Assignment?
I have not read it yet - it is on my father's day list - but the excerpt on Amazon is great. I Sleep at Red Lights: A True Story of Life after Triplets by Bruce Stockler is now in bookstores. Bruce is a media guy and stay at home father who has written for Jay Leno, Esquire and, my favorite, National Review. His column on Father's Day is online now at National Review.
The last line is a sound truth: "When the house is quiet, it feels as if something is terribly wrong."
Perhaps this book will become a manifesto for triplet dads. I will write a review when I finish it. Since my boys are all still in diapers I may not do the book justice. I suggest we all read it and share our thoughts.
Are there other books similar to this one that we might put in que for criticism? Triplet Fathers Book of the Month Club?

I thanked God every morning that there are no red lights between my home and work site. Can't wait to get my hands on this book.

I would normally never post on the FF, but I did a search to see if anyone had talked about this book and well, here I am, I promise not to make it a habit.
I really liked this book, the first half or so anyway, I laughed so hard when he was talking about sleep depravation. I could so indentify with a lot of his funny slap stick stuff.
The second half of the book became less about triplets and more about a somewhat alternate living arrangement if you will, him being the primary caregiver, the wife working 90+ hour weeks and their financial worries. The way society percieves a man in that role and what it did to his relationship with his wife. Much less funny and much more deep/depresing on social and economic issues.
If you are contemplating becoming a SAHD you might want to read this.
If you are looking for a laugh read the first half.
If you are depressed and feeling in over your head, maybe now is not a good time to tackle this book.
The fact that this was written by a Triplet Dad was something that I found really valuable in providing me with a male perspective.
I have seen it mentioned on the regular forum that you guys want to keep your own forum for guys and I do respect your FF privacy and would never read or even butt in on your other posts. For whatever it is worth I wanted to post a review since no one else had so far.

My parents bought me this book a few weeks ago, and my wife snatched it up and read it in a weekend. Hopefully I will get a chance to read it soon (new job, buying a new house and selling an old house have made time limited).
She said there were parts that made her a little scared (regarding the lack of sleep, etc.) but that it was very funny. Both she and my parents keep making references to stuff in the book, so I need to read it soon!

I just received the book this last weekend and I am almost finished with it. There are definately some scary parts about sleep deprivation. I guess I don't want to get into the book right now, I do not want to ruin anything for you. I am looking forward to some discussions to see what others thought of the book. Let us know when you finish it.

Finished it this weekend. Not bad. Not what I expected, but some parts really made me laugh, mostly because I knew exactly what he was talking about or I had done or thought the same thing. Overall it was worth the time.

The one thing that I was feeling reading the book is that it was not a true representation of what a family goes through raising triplets. It was about a guy having to do all the work without the help of his wife. I would have enjoyed the book more if it were a more traditional family going through the same thing. I wanted to see what raising triplets would be like without the added stress of a poor relationship. Maybe I will have to write a book for the next generation of triplet partents. I'll give the book a "C"

I already have tinkered with the concept of writing a book based on our experiences. Mainly, the fog in the middle of the night, the stupid decisions made by triplet parents who lose sleep. The title has been coined by a question my wife asked one night, during one of those foggy encounters... 'Where's my Third Nipple.' Other episodes, the night that I could not say 'marina' and only 'marijuana' came out.
So, you have it hear first, anyone using those ideas had at least get my name on the cover and into the royalties. Anyone who seriously wants to work a co-operative venture on a non-fiction future best-seller, email me privately... maybe a small group of us can put together a compiliation or something.
While I enjoy reading 'Red Lights', I put it down and havent had much desire to pick it back up again.

I was backpacking in the Grand Canyon many moons ago -- way before kids -- and took a book with me about someone else hiking in the Grand Canyon. I lost interest in it quicky...it seemed strange to be reading someone else's experiences when I was in the process of experiencing it myself.
My 3 boys are now 6 years old. Since I work half-time and my wife full-time, I do over half of the caring for the Boys. As with the book on the Grand Canyon, I do not feel any need to go out and buy it. I suppose if someone gives it to me, I'll at least will read the first half. I love reading and have even picked up my wife's mystery/lovestory/whatever novels and have read them even if I find most of them to be a bit silly, and usually not well written.

The book was entertaining at parts but gives the impression that raising trips is like swimming against the currant, you can't get ahead and you can't stop.
With a little planning, organization, etc, life with our 4 month old boys is not that different. I sleep from 10-6 myself.
